Do you think craft breweries only brew stouts and fruit beers? You're proving to be a true expert on this subject.

Huntsville has a couple that are good.

Huntsville is really starting to grow, with Campus 805 now housing Yellowhammer and Straight to Ale brewing. The city is making an effort to connect and grow the arts and entertainment district. I think we have close to 10 breweries locally now. I read recently that plans are in work to connect the Five Points area to the Lowe Mill area via some sort of giant raised walkway. I have to assume they'll tie Campus 805 in as well, since it's just a hop across Governor's Drive from Lowe Mill.

Do you work for anheuser busch or something?

As a matter of fact, Budweiser makes a great dark lager.

I generally prefer Czech beers over the fruity American craft fad beers.

While I love Portland, Asheville's scene is definitely the closest rival to it that I've been to. Portland still wins though.

Earlier you said you're a southern American and you drink American lagers. Make your mind up.

Wild loves Coors light it seems.

Actually Amstel is my preferred light beer.

But I'll drink a Bud light if I'm hot.

Should we be higher up on the list? After all, we are Yankees...

Apparently some of us don't know what craft beers are.

I never professed to be an expert - in fact, I'm decidedly NOT an expert, I'm a beer drinker.

And no one's going to convince me that putting too much of something in my beer is making it better.

"Very sweet and fruity, up front, with the butterscotch and strawberry tones building; creamy shortcake flavors develop; a bit of lagery twang, after the swallow"

That's not fricking beer, that's birthday cake.

As are most on here, I would say

Don't assume just because someone prefers craft over macro means they are a beer snob who would actually describe their beer in that manner. If you like it drink it. If not, oh well.

No, what I said was:

After I've just spent 3-4 hours mowing/whacking/weeding in 90+ degree weather, I'm not looking for an oatmeal stout or a English porter, I want a light American lager. I live in the American South, not northern Europe. It's a different climate.

I'm not ALWAYS mowing. When the weather is cool, I like porters and stouts. Hell, I like pale ales as long as the hops are balanced.

We live in Chapel Hill now and it is nice but we still have our house in Asheville and by far one of the best beer towns in the south if not in the country especially for its size. Population just over 80k and there are 19 micro breweries with over 100 local beers being brewed. Not to mention in the last several years Sierra Nevada, Oscar Blues, and New Belgium all opened there east coast operations in the area.

This scene has gone far enough. Pretty soon craft brews that don't give 3 out of 5 tasters diarrhea, could be moved toward the bottom of the rankings.

Would have thought Nash would have a better craft scene than this.

Although it is no Asheville, Nashville is still one of the better scenes in the South. We've got around 25 breweries and I'd put Southern Grist and Bearded Iris up there with Creature Comforts. Nashville/Vanderbilt should be #1 out of sheer number of breweries and craft beer bars.
