These are self generated numbers that do not meet any federal requirements. They are mainly for PR purposes and can be doctored or skewed to meet those goals.

I think the best indicator for how selective a school's admission standards are is to show those numbers for applicants who were denied admissions.

I hated the Texas reporting of class rank instead of GPA. I was at a smart school and you had to have over a 100 average to make it in the top 10 percent.

I'm the opposite. I got in on my ACT score. I fricked off the SAT and never sent it in.
And I think the present 10 percent rule in Texas might have hindered me.

The % is BS because it doesn't take into account the grade inflation and deflation of schools along with the class rigor/ classes. If I got to an easy school and took non-AP classes and have a 3.98 GPA, that doesn't mean a thing.

That's why ACT is on there too. All of the numbers can be massaged.

Yes it does for some schools, not all of them.

95% of all incoming UF freshman had at least a 3.75 GPA?

That just doesn't' even seem possible. I know about their academic prowess, but that just seems exorbitantly high.

Most people are surprised by the academic quality at SC. We're not Ivy League, but we do okay.

Our Honors College is really nice and is pulling in students with Vandy-type numbers. It's legit.

When I lived in Florida and had kids approaching college age, it was well-established that it was not only difficult to get into UF, their SAT scores were high and you had to have an extremely high GPA. There was a big stink about UF's entrance standards being discriminatory as well, as shown by their demographics related to GPA and test scores with their GPA requirements higher than any school outside the IVY league and Stanford. Their president made some racially charged comments about that time also, and he was gone not long after that.
