The free meals given out by some California cities attracts enclaves of semi-homeless people permanantly camping in RV's who piss and shite in the streets and break in people's cars.

College Station doesn't have that problem.

What the frick.

College Station is a dump sorry

A&M is a great school, but the campus looks like a Soviet military compound

Texas A&M students have almost zero interaction with anyone from outside the state of Texas

one of the reasons many Texans are so close minded. I have been told on more than one occasion (after a brag that tejas has the best of.............) that even tho the bragger had never been outside of texas, texas was still the best. even the best gumbo. I do not lie.

thank god, many of the people I know here are not that way or didn't come from texas

Has some very pretty parts, has some ugly parts.

As a whole I wouldn't say it's "Soviet". A few
buildings yes

Anyone that says there is better gumbo in Texas versus Louisiana is indeed dumb as frick. No argument here.

Although I will say that the quality of gumbo in Texas has improved greatly post Katrina.

The old Reed Mc Donald building, the Bioligy building - yes, they are really bad. However, there is some classic architecture and we were smart to cover the campus with Live Oak trees.

And anyone that says College Station is a dump is an idiot that has never been there. There are some dumps in Texas and the South, and College Station ain't one of them.

they have 70% plus admissions, so you have to really be stupid not to get in

You haven't a clue about what you're talking.
The topic can be confusing; I honestly do see that.
But some folks on this board read bits and pieces of info, then quote snippets until they create their own false reality.
That 70% number you quote is pulled from students who are ranked in the top 10%.
Diploma mill? Hardly.

18% from Texas seems low, I believe it was last year the incoming freshman class had more kids from Texas than from Arkansas for the first time ever.

Yea.. SC's numbers look pretty spot on. Confirms my beliefs that SC is the most "east coast" of all the SEC schools..

Speaking from experience, my freshmen year I lived in a 4 person on campus apartment and 2 of my suitemates were from Virginia, the other was from Boston.

Also, anybody that has attended USC in the last 10 years knows what I mean when I say "you can't throw a rock on campus without hitting somebody from New Jersey"..

Eventhough we're in the Deep South, USC has made a conscious effort to recruit more students from NC, Virginia and the mid-Atlantic states... and it's finally paying off. State legislators complain about the school not being for the people of SC... but then the school responds by arguing how the state has all but forced the USC to fiscally operate as a private university, leading to more out of state students (paying higher tuition).

That 3.4 percent of students from Georgia is 95% metro Atlanta... and another reason for NC's higher numbers is because SC actually offers some NC residents in state tuition, especially if you're from Charlotte, which is basically on the border.

Yea - a lot of the state schools in the SEC that don't have big metro areas that can support the schools alone (Texas, Georgia, Tennessee if you combine MEM/NSV/CHA/KNX) are going that route. Like I said above, I think it's a nice change of pace and can wonders. Shakes things up a bit, but also a lot of those kids take something Southern back with them.......or stay.

Based on this I would guess 2/3 of A&M's undergrad was automatically admitted.
