quote:You've never heard anyone talk about the Atlanta University Center or AUC? No offense, but are you from Atlanta or from one of the suburbs? I grew up in town (product of APS) and we all knew about Morehouse, Morris Brown, etc and the AUC.
I'm from Atlanta and have literally never heard anyone use that terminology, and my family has been in Atlanta for a looooong time.
quote:From my understanding that has nothing to do with Arkansas and the Razorbacks...it was a semi-veiled shot at the Folsom guards when he performed live there the first time: sooie = way to call hogs = pigs = cops.
Arkansas native Johnny Cash's infamous 'Sooie' during Folson Prison Blues. He was known to yell this a lot during his live shows.

Ole Miss is mentioned in Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire
Not in a good way.
Depends on how you interpret it.
The song is basically about the great social and political upheaval of the '50s and '60s. I think the outcome of the Civil Rights Era is a good thing (we all do), and am happy that an Ole Miss alumnus is associated so positively with those changes.

Also, Bob Dylan's "Oxfordtown" is about Ole Miss.

Every Sigur Ros song is about Starkville and MSU. It is, however, sung in a ridiculous, made-up language called Icelandic and we might never know the true meaning.

Hurricane Harry's gets the best shows now. I've seen Pat Green there a couple times, Whiskey Myers, Charlie Robison, Randy Rogers, etc. The Tap also occasionally has good shows, that's where Cory Morrow usually plays. The Texas Hall of Fame used to get great shows as well but it closed unfortunately. Chilifest (right outside College Station) is in April too, which always brings a great Texas country lineup and is an awesome time with about 40-50,000 people there drunk as hell

Awesome thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to seeing what college station is like. I actually enjoyed the aggie fans I met in dallas this year. only a couple of them were jackasses but i figure it's that way with most fan bases.

Pretty sure Carrie Underwood sings a song with a title along the lines of night before life goes on that mentions LSU

there are numerous country music/classic rock songs that feature Tennessee or Knoxville or the Smokey Mountains.
im not sure if there are many that feature the VOLS specifically other than Kenny Chesney's touchdown TN.
