The ACC looks like this:

ooking at the Big 10 now, there are several tiers as far as value:

1st tier
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
USC

1st tier
FSU
Clemson

This is a mistake. FSU and Clemson may be first tier in the ACC, but they aren't in the same tier as the 4 Big 10 teams (or the SEC first tier). They are 2nd tier.

Florida State and UNC, maybe UVA and someone else. Clemson is overrated.

I think this too. If Dabo gets hit by a bus tomorrow, how long does Clemson stay a top program?

BIG 10 has plenty of money to play with right now

I don’t disagree with this part. Just don’t think it’s going to pan out well in the end. Football is dying in other areas. But remains King in The South on a per capita basis.

Ya'll used to say Dabo couldn't win a title. now Clemson can't win with another coach.

Clemson won a title in the 80's with a different coach.

I think you think Clemson will struggle if it doesn't get into SEC and Big 10. and you think Clemson would give SEC teams more losses and Clemson's recruiting would improve.

The smart move for Clemson is to stay in the ACC given the playoffs will take 12 teams.

What does 18 teams give us that 16 doesn't?

The SEC can't expand. ESPN owns SEC and ACC. They aren't going to pay $60 million for FSU in the SEC when they already own it for $30 million. And that goes for Clemson and everyone else in the ACC.
No, I actually think it might be the opposite.

If the Big 10 (non-ESPN) can piece together a lineup that challenges SEC (ESPN) viewership, one of the first thought processes at the network will be to find a way to push Clemson, Florida State and whoever else to the SEC. It's almost like having someone in the minors, waiting to call them up.

Right now, ESPN is paying the ACC a lot of money for the right to televise a few Clemson, Fla State and maybe Va Tech and Miami games. Nobody goes looking for UNC-Pitt, or Duke-Boston College, etc.
When the money really starts to get tight, ESPN might try to find a way out of the ACC deal, up to and including helping to kill that conference, and throw all their eggs into the SEC. And if in doing so, it can keep the few marquee names in the ACC in their pocket, so much the better.

that's two examples.

You know Alabama will win most of its SEC games.

There's a reason you have a small sample size.

i think more people in the northeast prefer that to texas am vs sc

the issue with the ACC is the colleges have smaller enrollments in general than SEC and Big 10. it's not because the majority of SEC and Big 10 games are exciting.

only time I watch a SEC game is when the score is close in last 5 minutes and it has playoff implications.
