Right. His original statement had nothing to do with national championships, only percentage of total wins post-2000. Now, NC's are the only thing that matter.

What percentage of LSU?

SEC titles? LSU has won 4 of their 11 the past 16 years. The SEC was founded in 1933. So they won 7 in their first 67 years and 4 the past 16. LSU also won 3 pre-SEC conference titles. No one said LSU hasn't been better now than they were, but you are trying to post stats to try to prove LSU wasn't worth anything whatsoever before. I could say, Alabama averaged 6.6 wins per season before Saban got there in it's entire history and that Saban averages 11.1 and say "omg, Alabama wasn't shite before Saban." And that would sound ridiculous to you because it is. Same thing with LSU. If you go back to the start of LSu football in 1893, they played 2 and 3 games seasons until 1898, didn't play more than 7 games in a season until 1903. Teams simply didn't play 10 games, on average, a year until the 1930s. College football didn't play 11 games in a season until the late 70s. They didn't start playing 12 game seasons until Les Miles' first year at LSU. So yeah, please cite "overall wins" in a time period that played far fewer games each season than they play now

Nah bro. Didn't you see? Pre-2000, national titles are all that matter, now.

Yale is the undisputed king of CFB, pre-2000 of course. LSU was barely decent.

To argue that LSU was some incredible program prior to 2000 is to live in LA and wear P&G glasses. Decent program? I guess, if you consider less than 6 wins per year on average to be "decent". But LSU since 2000 is a completely different animal than at any other point in your history.
From 1869-2000 we were #10 on the all time ranking list that this board loves.

from 1869-2016 we moved all the way to #9

HOLLLLLY COW A JUMP OF 1 SPOT

the thing that's funny is fans try to act like 16 years, or about 1/5 of the history of the SEC is just a small amount of time that should be discounted because...reasons.

You have to see the guys point though.

Wins Ranking in decade increments.

1940-1949
9. Alabama 66
22. LSU 57

1950-1959
38. LSU 55
55. Alabama 50

1960-1969
1. Alabama 90
7. LSU 76

1970-1979
1. Alabama 103
17. LSU 76

1980-1989
11. Alabama 85
29. LSU 70

1990-1999
14. Alabama 83
58. LSU 54

Average Ranking according to total wins per decade from 1940-1999
Alabama: 15th
LSU: 28th

2000-2009
6. LSU 99
71. Alabama 58

2010-2015
1. Alabama 72
10. LSU 61

Average ranking according to wins since 2000
LSU: 8th
Alabama: 40th

So yea, the guy has a point. From 1940-1999, Alabama led the nation in total wins in two different decades and had a top 15 average over the course of that time span.

LSU had an average of being 28th over that same time span, but since 1999, has won more games on average, than it did in any of its previous history.

Not a single LSU fan will argue that the 2000s isnt our best era.

No one disputes that. Every LSU fan acknowledges that LSU has been more successful the past 16 years than any other point in its history. What's disingenuous is to say that LSU football was basically average compared to its peers over the course of the rest of its history. That simply isn't true. The problem is the majority of posters on this site are under the age of 40. So many posters grew up in the 90s, when LSU was experiencing its worst era of its history, so they conveniently want to apply that to the entirety of LSU's history.

Bama averaged 6.6 per year before 2000.

So nearly a full win per year better over a 107 year stretch resulting in over 100 more wins than LSU? Sounds pretty good.

So, all of this applies to Bama as well, right?

Not if you understand mathematics. Also, not if you understand championships.

You do realize that YOU'RE the one who brought up the % of total wins post-2000 as an indictment against LSU first, right?

Factoring in titles makes LSU look even better than just wins, as shown by the weighted rankings that are posted.....How fricking dumb are you?

This is the best counter argument for my point about % of overall program wins that have taken place since 2000.

That said, if you want to look at program wins for each of those blocks of time you listed (1903 - 1930, 1930 - 1970, 1970 - 1999, 2000 - present), I think you'll still find that this is by far the best stretch in LSU history. That's the main point people are making here. LSU football didn't start in 2000, it just started being an annual title contender in 2000.

The point we LSU fans are making is that you're stupid for trying to say LSU was "just decent" prior to 2000.

And we're right.

This thread wasn't about championships bro. Now you're just doing mental gymnastics. Alabama is better than LSU and also the best program of all time. Feel better?

If Alabama shut down there football program for three decades, we still wouldn't have as many wins as them. That's pretty impressive

LSU was a really good program before 1990. They had a terrible 1990s.

People act like LSU was Vanderbilt before Saban arrived. That is silly.
