Defense wins championships. Anyone thinking OU takes a big fall needs to realize our defense will be stout. Year 3 of BV rebuild and system, his players starting to take hold. Look what he did in Clemson year 3. Of course, that was more stable than what he took over from LR, but he will have some experienced players to lean on this year.

That graphic lost all credibility by using an LSU defense picture from 2023.

So you're saying OU is returning most of the defense that let up 45 to TCU and 38 to Kansas?

Oklahoma returns 79% (#8) from a unit that ranked #38 in SP+ defense last year.

For comparison:

- Texas A&M returned 77% (#19) from a unit ranked #18 in SP+ in 2022. They finished ranked #20 - a 2 spot drop.

- USC returned 78% (#15) from a unit ranked #87. They finished ranked #105 - a 18 spot drop.

Returning production is a nice tool, but it means less and less in the transfer portal era when "returning production" included in that stat are guys whose stats come from another school and another system.

Crazy that Georgia pays an analyst more than a lot of Power 5 programs pay their defensive coordinator. Is Muschamp's title just a way to avoid coaching roster limits?

He was on staff the last few years but (and UGA folks can correct me if I am wrong) he is taking a step back by choice this year. Still wants to work, but not doing recruiting or anything, just analyst work.

It is a way to reduce his hours on the road.

I think he is taking a significant pay decrease now that he is an analyst. He is now making $50k.

I think you baws are setting yourselves up for a letdown. One of your defensive assistants is cutting his teeth with y'all. Not sure if you included him in that staff evaluation.

That makes more sense, thanks for the correction. I'm sure he could land a DC job somewhere if he wanted one.

Yeah, consider LSU. #26 at 71% from a unit that ranked 110 in ypg. Is returning production a good thing in that case?

Seems like a pretty squishy metric.

Our biggest loss in production is at the most pivotal spot too
