I think it was from your school website. I just looked it when I made the post, but have seen it before. I think it was 72' @ 25k. But yall were even in the 7k's in the 50's. in comparison, has always been a larger school and blew up in the 60's going forward.

I get so tired of this lame-arse excuse.
From 1950-1970 Ole Miss averaged 4,132 students, including graduate students. They didn't surpass 4,000 until 1960, and never had 7,000 in that period. THIS INCLUDED MEN AND WOMEN.
Yet in that same time frame they led the entire country in win%, had 5 SEC championships, and one national championship.

I will never understand this logic.
Lifelong military personnel, children under the age of 18, people who wanted to go to a school for their specialization, people who go to an Ivy league school, people who got into college abroad, etc...
None of these people are allowed to be "real fans"?
Go tell the 19 year old fighting in Iraq and being shot at that he's not a "real fan" because of that Auburn or Alabama shirt he's got on under his BDUs.

What are you talking about. there is no excuse being made, we were both talking about student body size and relation to total living alumni.

I am not using anything as an excuse, just discussing the numbers. If you read my original post I said our alumni base is probably smaller in proportion to our current enrollment because of this than many other big schools. Comparing us to Alabama or Ole Miss is dumb. Would you compare Houston to Jackson or Birmingham? The only SEC school that we can really be compared to as far as student population is UF. UF has 373k living alumni according to their site and we have 350.

Forgive me. It's just that I've seen these 'numbers' in relation to A&M's poor historical showing in football for so long, it just seems to follow naturally.
But as far as A&M being a military school, that's really no excuse for anything. In this league, LSU is the Old War Skule.

I recommend you go ahead and leave that out in the future - it comes off as excuse making. I believe LSU and A&M both dropped the ROTC requirement for males at about the same time.

LSU proved you could be a military school and allow co-eds.
Just because A&M was a military school didn't mean they couldn't allow women. They just didn't (don't) like women.

Honestly, I think it's a testament to the institutions' brand more than anything. So I don't find it necessary a bad thing for my university to have a ton of "t-shirt fans" as some like to call them.
