This is a fact. Now that the revenue angle for a home game is shot to hell, now it is about the community in general. Give us a break.

Probably a lot of the people that were going to the game but suffered flood damage would rather save their money and put it to good use rebuilding or purchasing something they need. Very few people affected by the floods are going to benefit from a game.

How in the world are people who lost their homes because they weren't supposed to ever flood and didn't purchase insurance going to be positively affected by a game at Tiger Stadium? Answer... they will not.

LSU AD: Cancellation to cost school up to $3.2 million
LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said Tuesday the school would be offering full refunds on all tickets purchased to Saturday's canceled game vs. McNeese State.

That is the AD talking about a CANCELED game that happened last year, against McNeese.

Also, even for that game, from your link:

An insurance policy may allow LSU to recoup some of the money, but how much is currently unclear.

Where does it say that for this RESCHEDULED game against UF, that insurance would pay out $3MM to LSU??????

Well of course not, I was just informing him that there is now way we are giving up a home game.

We can't afford to.

Good read. Totally throws Sankey under the bus. If true, Foley didn't do anything wrong because it wasn't his call to make. I like how they call out the differences with South Carolina last year having more time to deal with logistics. If the insurance policy will pay LSU for the lost Nov 19th game, they need to quit bitching.

So we agree that $3.2 is roughly the number. And we agree that there is a policy for cancelled games. So we can assume that LSU should get $3,2 +/- for lost game revenue....now if there is a gap between insurance etc. I think it would be appropriate to make LSU whole.

An LSU home game generates 15 million dollars to the city.

Insurance policy won't cover anything near that.

We aren't losing a home game because Sankey fricked up.

Um yeah none of it was true. We were gonna be down two linemen, not five. LDR was going to play. We beat Vanderbilt.

Mac has two press conferences a week (Monday, Wednesday) plus the SEC teleconference. The injury outlook on Monday looked bad but Brantley and Cox he expected to play as of Wednesday. LDR practiced all week. You posted that yourself.

I'm aware of the economic benefit College Football has on a city. When A&M started talking about stadium renovations in 2012, the original rumor was we would play at NRG stadium in Houston for a year. The Brazos Valley Chamber of Commerce stepped in and basically said businesses would fail and A&M would lose a lot of sponsorship $$ from local entities. We found a way to make it happen without moving the games.

I will say this: an out of conference game does not generate $15 Million. It does generate a lot of money for the local economy, but not that much. Find some evidence and I will gladly admit I'm wrong.

What about Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and surrounding cities that benefit from the 7-8 home games hosted by LSU?

There is no way the conference can be responsible for that...there is no way to quantify exactly how much money is at stake nor is there anyway to determine exactly who should get what. The Conference can't be responsible for that. Further, UF is also losing gameday revenue as well so it's something that is shared equitably.

LSU would not only have to pay a $1.5 million buyout to South Alabama, but also lose about $3 million in home game revenue and lose the per home game economic impact of $6.8 million to the Baton Rouge community.

4. Fiction: Florida could have played at LSU
Fact: LSU offered to host the Gators, but they could not make the trip with such short notice and a hurricane potentially affecting their travel. Last year, South Carolina began planning Sunday to play the upcoming Saturday in Baton Rouge instead of Columbia, S.C. So that comparison is apples to oranges.

Well, this is false. The planning for the game didn't begin until Tuesday evening with confirmation Wednesday at noon. I was in a meeting with a senior-level LSU official on Tuesday morning.

Even worse, UF KNEW there was a hurricane heading in the general direction of the Florida Peninsula on Sunday. They could have begun contingency planning then.

quote:

“You aren’t going to put your team on the road and still have the same issue about traveling equipment trucks through this kind of weather. Traveling a team without any security because security forces are being deployed where they should be deployed. Would there be gas for the buses? Could you get buses? There’s so many unknowns.”

LSU was ready to fly to Florida and take buses from Tampa to Gainesville. So this "fuel for buses" bullshite is just that.

1. Florida forced the cancellation when they wouldn't consider moving it.

2. No one is realistically saying it could have been played Saturday - except for the Florida AD right up until it was too late to move the game.

3. Fact: LSU and Florida could have and should have played Sunday.

4. Fact: The game could have been played in Baton Rouge.

5. Fact: Florida should have played last weekend, most everyone else did, except for the teams that shared a bye week - AND AGREED IN ADVANCE TO THE RESCHEDULED DATE.

6. Fact: Florida was scared they would lose the game, they were dogs on their own field.

7. Already addressed, Tulane and UCF shared a bye week, something you conveniently neglected to pointy out in your diatribe.

8. Fact: A recruit was brave enough to show up, the Florida football team, not so much.

9. Fact: Florida knows LSU is already contractually obligated for the 19th of November, so now that is their only recommendation.

10. Fact: Insurance won't cover the cost of a home game to the community.

quote:

I do hope for UF/LSU sake this game is played.

LSU tried, Florida declined.

It's too late now.

Move along.
