Will A&M put up with another 5 loss season from Sumlin?

Sumlin would have to go winless to be fired after this season.

Okay, here's how most Vandy fans feel about Mason:

1) Last year was a fricking train wreck of immeasurable proportions. Everything that could go wrong went wrong.
2) He made an amazingly bad hire in Karl Dorrell at OC, but he did have to try to assemble his first ever staff less than a month before NSD. As such, he went with familiar names. His S&C hire was equally as bad.
3) Mason made the correct decisions to jetison KD and the S&C coach then made great hires in Andy Ludwig and James Dobson.
4) Who was hotter as a DC than Derek Mason 2 years ago? Well, if he thinks Ludwig is capable of running the offense without too much oversight, why not do the job himself?
5) Most of us don't have a win total to determine whether he should stay or not. The expectation is 3-5 wins. For most of us, the most important part is that he shows leadership and the ability to competently handle the rigors of being a HC. The team needs to compete and show that they are moving in the right direction too.

Probably Sumlin. His teams and records are on a downward trajectory and after all the money pumped into new facilities boosters must be getting frustrated with declining production.

Probably Sumlin.

His buyout is even bigger than the one Les has.

Miles isn't going anywhere. He's putting together one of the best recruiting classes in the nation currently.

It would take 8 or less wins this year AND next year for him to be fired.

In 10 years his worst 2 years were 8 win seasons. Not many coaches can make that claim.

So Miami had the chance to have Nick Saban and Drew Brees in 2004... and to have Bret Bielema and Russell Wilson in 2012... and whiffed both times?

If he hasn't grown as a coach at all from last year, he gone. Dude was as overmatched as anyone in the conference. It was really shocking. When he was hired it looked like a good move. He just wasn't what people thought.

He was a DC that was becoming a head coach for the first time. Hell, he was only a fulltime DC the past 2 years. Before that he was a position coach. All the top players had just left and Franklin was siphoning off the recruits he did have committed at that time. They had nothing last year, of course it was going to be bad.

The reaction in the media and from CFB fans over last year is typical of the social media age though. Over reactionary. This is still Vandy, for people to expect it to have been anything more than a dumpster fire year one when looking at all the angles, don't understand the college game. It's not like he started in some sun belt or mountain west team and did good for 3 years and then transitioned. He moved straight from 2 years of DC to HC at the most football talentless and weakest team in the toughest conference.

This is almost has bad as the expectations for South Carolina preseason last year after all they lost on defense.

Vandy should be better this year, but your guess is as good as mine on the record. I think if they can sweep the OOC games, he will have done good. If he can upset anybody in the SEC, then he worked a miracle.

yes. it's called poor management from the owner and GM down. here is the thing in the NFL. if your a head coach coming from college to the nfl. You are losing a ton of power/control. sometimes you don't even get to choose who you draft. this is why bret didn't go. it's why bill belechick has been so successful. he has an organization who is on the same page as him and gives him the freedom to run his team and draft his guys. places like the cowboys/jets the owner/GM is the one making the roster and decisions. once again screw you to the LSU fan and auburn fan who called me a liar when in fact they was the one talking out thier arse. I'm sorry you two are butt hurt no one in the pros wants your coach.

But would the Bulldogs ever fire Richt? Probably not.

he was going to be fired in 2011 if we didn't win a certain amount of games, yet we did (and the east) so he stayed. Followed that up with winning the east again.
