Mason said he over-estimated how good his team was going to be last year. I did the same. I thought they were going to be terrible, and they were still worse than I imagined.
It was Vandy's fault. Even if they couldn't hold onto their once in a generation coach when Penn St. came calling at the very least they could have paid more money for a better replacement.

He may not be the right man for the job, but I don't think firing a coach for not having success after two years at VANDERBILT is very prudent.
Please. They had been grown into a much better team. The East was not a juggernaut last year, they had returning talent and everything was markedly worse. He switched their defensive scheme and they were miserable. Every move he made went wrong and he was shell-shocked. The guy just might not have what it takes to lead a program.

bert almost took the Miami dolphins job. the on reason he didn't is because they argued over drafting russell wilson in the second round. Miami wanted tannehill. bert told them he would win a super bowl in 5 years with RW. seems he was right. the only thing is I'm just not sure if he wants to deal with the egos at the next level. he basically has come out and said he doesn't like prima donnas and that is all the NFL is. overpaid babies.

There is a small bit of truth behind it, but this is embellished quite a bit

Interesting. Got a link? Not saying I don't believe you, just the first time I've heard this.

Between Bert, Les, Meyers, Saban, Spurrier, Carroll etc... which would level do you think they rather?
A HC of a college with a proven record gets almost the same salary as a NFL HC if not more.
Plus he gets to be the GM and hire his own staff. He is given almost complete control and only has to answer to the NCAA really.
HC at the NFL level for about 25 guys is a 2-5 year stint followed by a demotion back to coordinator or position coach.
Your success not only hinges on what you do...but what your GM and Owner want to do. You still have a Commish to answer to that can sabotage your entire season. You are punished for success between the draft and FA.
HC at college if you are good at it can be a steady income for a decade-whenever you quit. Championships are encouraged but not required to keep your job as long as you consistently win.(Richt, SC Spurrier)
The NFL you can win all day and still get fired because of pissing off the wrong guy. ( Schottenheimer, Harbaugh)

I didn't write the article. I think it is a weird year where due to circumstances no SEC coach is on the hot seat.

Vandy - Mason is good, can't see them firing him after 2 years
Mizzou - Pinkel was on hot seat and he is closer to retirement, bought himself a lot of goodwill with back to back east titles
UGA - Richt will stay as long as UGA wants him, needs to do more in a watered down east
USCe - Spurrier retires will be next one to leave
Fla - new coach
Tenn - needs to start winning some big games
UK - bowl game would be a start
Bama - NFL itch probably gone, Falcons would have been a good fit, will retire from Bama and could probably be an AD but could you imagine working for him as a head coach
Auburn - Malzahn might want to try NFL at some point
Ole Miss - unless NCAA comes down Freeze is good for that program
MSU - Mullen can stay for life with that year last year
Ark - Bert is building
A&M - Sumlin probably to NFL at some point
LSU - Miles is going nowhere, buyout huge, success over ten year period is strong

Or are we talking Bert and Jen doing it doggy?

No chance Les Miles is fired anytime soon. Zero. His buyout remains huge through 2017.

It really more comes down to if you want to recruit or not. NFL coaches work far less than CFB coaches because of recruiting. All else is very similar, there are just more job opportunities in CFB
