I like Atlanta and think it is the perfect location. That being said, if Jackson State ever gets their 32,000 seat dome approved, Atlanta better watch out.

That idea died with Luymba

It needs to be moved to a more central location now that we've added Mizzou and TAMU.

Atlanta does a good job, but New Orleans and Dallas should host it on a rotating schedule

I like it in Atlanta. Atlanta is centrally located for driving and has a huge airport for people who want to fly. The city has plenty of amenities: hotel rooms, restaurants, attractions, etc.

IMO having it in one place creates a sense of history and tradition. As another poster mentioned, "getting to Atlanta" has become shorthand for making it to the SECCG.

The SECCG has been a big success in Atlanta, sells out every year, the CFB HOF provides a nice partnership opportunity, and the city will have a new stadium soon.

IMO the only other cities that would make sense for a possible rotation are New Orleans and Nashville. Nashville would need a dome for it to happen. Cities like Dallas, Houston, Jacksonville, and St. Louis don't make sense geographically.

Atlanta is NOT centrally located. Take out a map and look at the 11 states that make up the SEC. ATL is on the eastern fringes of the SEC geographical stamp.

The SECCG needs to rotate. Memphis is closer to a central location than anywhere else. Hell, if we play football outside on the last Sat in November we can play fball outside the very next Saturday.

If it must be in a domed stadium, rotate it this way: ATL, New Orleans, ATL, HOuston, ATL, Arlington.

See the earlier part of the thread. It is less than 7 hours from almost 75% of the campuses. It is the only city with a suitable stadium and area that can say that.

The only other places that could even be up for discussion in terms of being semi-centrally located and have a stadium that would work are New Orleans, Atlanta and Nashville and New Orleans is on the fringe for UGA, USC, UT, UK, Arky, Mizzou and Nashville's stadium is older and does not have a dome.

It's funny that everyone who has actually played in and attended the game loves it in Atlanta, and everyone who hasn't wants it to be somewhere else.

Distances to Atlanta

Auburn, AL - 1.75 hrs
Columbia, SC - 3.25 hrs
Tuscaloosa, AL - 3 hrs
Knoxville, TN - 3.25 hrs
Gainesville, FL - 5 hrs
Starkville, MS - 4.5 hrs
Nashville, TN - 4 hrs
Oxford, MS - 5 hrs
Lexington, KY - 5.75 hrs
Baton Rouge, LA - 7.75 hrs
College Station, TX - 12.5 hrs
Fayetteville, AR - 10.5 hrs
Columbia, MO - 10.25 hrs

As was posted earlier, Atlanta really is fairly well located. Ten of the schools are less than 6 hours away. LSU is under 8 hours. That leaves Arky, Mizzou, and A&M with travel issues.

I don't think there is another city with appropriate amenities that works as well. B'ham is probably the most centrally located "major" city, but Legion Field is a dump and no one wants to go to B'ham.

As I said in my previous post, Nashville would be a decent choice, but I think the lack of a dome is a deal breaker. Also they are going to be the semi-permanent home to the SEC Basketball tourney.

NOLA is the only other one that comes even close, and it is not as centrally located.

The idea of the biggest event in the SEC being in Texas or Mizzou just makes no sense geographically. If you disagree please post travel times to the other cities so we can compare.
