Arkansas owned us when LSU had Shaq and for years after that

Sometimes with a little help. In '92 Shaq was hammered by three guys on an attempted game-winning dunk, knocked to the floor and the refs swallowed their whistles, allowing the Hogs to escape with a 1-point W. Those were outstanding teams for Arky, even the one that gave Daddy Dale a going away victory in the PMAC.

Trent Johnson could very well be considered one of the best LSU coaches ever (top 2) if he can survive the current obstacles.

There is a reason he has been coach of the year in more than one conference.

Nevertheless, he didn't get the in-state players he needed to get.

Derenbrecker, despite what anyone says is a big loss. Not neccessarily because of talent, but skills are contagious; and having serious athletes surrounding players like Derenbrecker (AS A SENIOR) is how your win. Think Don Redden old folks.

I know Trent simply let the teamn play through some of their beatings last year.

Players don't truly work on their weaknessess until they get their arse beat because of them.
Immidiately after a season ends, a coach will finally see his players working with their left handed lay-ups, free-throws, dribbling skills, ect. I know Hickey is on the way, but watch how much better last year's PG will handle the ball. These kids weaknesses aren't exposed in high school.

As long as coaches are yelling at players- you suck. Once players are yelling at players- you have seniors and you probably win.

Look, he intentionally took one on the chin and rebuilt with freshman. But that was two years ago. Last year the team started 3 freshman, despite two not being ready, and we couldnt overcome it. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO BETTER LAST YEAR; BUT HIS PG CALCULATION WERE WRONG Derenbrecker needed a year of weights and our PG wasn't one yet.

This years talented and deep frontcourt will turn things around. We are unquestionably better at
Center (added one, and gained experience)
Power Forward (added one, and gained experience)
Small Forward (gained experience, lost one)
Point Guard (added one, gained experience)

Give Trent time. He isn't a great recruiter. In today's basketball landscape that might be good. BEWARE OF A COACH WHO CAN RECRUIT
Tis better to have a program that does it for you.

Last year's team didn't establish that, I think it will change.

go Trent

Your RPI will be boosted by playing other SEC teams, while the other teams will have theirs fall just by play you.

So congrats on that.

It says a lot about the SEC's relative strength for UGA to be 0-2 but still have a very good RPI. Look for the dogs to start winning pretty quick.

RPI is supposed to be a SOS rating "and" how well a team does against that schedule.

If State looses all of it's SEC games, then it is possible for the formula God's not to give them that bump. Of course, I don't really know the formula or care. I just know we suck and it's getting worse.

So far so good. I'm pleased enough with our play that I'm not obsessing too much over what our resume would look like if we had a win at Wichita state.

The overall RPI of the conference impresses me even more when I think about how horribly the first two weeks of the season went. There were some really bad losses early.

That is one of many RPIs, but not the official RPI the committee uses.

Wow. If you lose to miss state... Kiss the tourney goodbye. That would be a huge hit on your rpi to lose to them. Probably even drop a little just by playing them period.
