I think USC sweeping Arkansas in Columbia broke their spirit and demoralized them. The Hogs were ranked in the top 15 in the nation at the time, but I guess we exposed them a bit.....

or can this be written off as "one of those seasons", particularly with how strong the overall SEC is this year

The SEC is strong every year, even stronger when we are good

LSU not making it with the #26 RPI was a joke. The streak would be really long without that bullshite call by Mississippi State's AD.

Still wouldn't even touch the streak we had under Bertman, and the beginning of Smoke.

Every program is going to go through down times. It's just the way it is. Hell I remember the great melt among our fans when we tanked and wondered if we were ever going to compete at a high level again. Like they say, be nice to the people on your way up because you're gonna run into those same people on your way down lol.

What happened this season?

Pitching, which is weird to say for a Van Horn/Jorn coached team.

Taccolini started just like he left off last year. Making teams look silly. He then hit a very shitty stretch where he would only last an inning, starting. We had no solid starter behind him really other than McKinney. At the end of last season, McKinney was a big reason Arkansas made a run to Omaha. Though, he has always hit a wall in the late 4th inning or 5th inning. At times, we couldn't even get that much out of him.

Jackson was brought from his closing role to a starter. Even as a closer, he looked like shite this season. Walks, walks, and more walks.

Hitting has been inconsistent, but it has been good enough to win quite a few more games if it had some solid pitching behind it. I don't know how many leads our staff has blown this year, but they've blown quite a few.

IMO, this pitching staff isn't very coachable. Van Horn and Jorn are very proven in what they can do with coachable pitchers. Just look at MLB rosters. I think this is just a bad run of supposed to be high caliber guys, that just didn't pan out.

Pretty sure LSU was #21 in the RPI that year. They also got robbed in Smoke's last year. State missed the SECT and went over LSU. That ended a 17 year streak

And someone is blaming an MSU AD for that? He would only have one vote. This is reaching and first I've heard of this good gosh.

It's not reaching. State did not qualify for the SECT in 2006 and made the tournament. LSU qualified for the SECT and were left out. Ron Polk was on the selection committee. You do the math.

Well first I see it was our AD and now it was Ron Polk. I shall investigate this matter.

2011 was the year with the high RPI, and we were left out.

Wasn't that the first series of the year in conference? And weren't the games all close for the most part? Seems I remember maybe 1 that got out of hand late. At any rate, it wasnt that series that did that, as arkansas followed that up with a sweep of their own at Auburn.

I found it. The only thing I see is MSU finished with a better conference record and appears to have played a better conference schedule. Both teams look similiar that year too.

Both teams swept Tennessee. Both teams took 2 of 3 from Ole Miss. Both teams same record vs Alabama. LSU won a game vs UGA while MSU was swept. LSU on the other hand was swept by Florida, Arkansas and Vandy of which did not happen to MSU. MSU also swept Auburn which LSU did not. MSU also played USC that year which LSU did not so call it anyway you want. I doubt Ron Polk had a deciding vote.

What stands out is LSU played a 3 game series with Cal State and early in the season and won twice 7-6 and swept them the last day winning 10-2. So there you have it.

Do you think there is any fight left for the last series of the season?

It doesn't seem like it. The rally possum took our will to compete.
