Watching a rerun of SEC Storied on Abby Wambach got me thinking about which other sec players are considered the best ever.

- Abby Wambach (from UF) is the greatest women's soccer player in the world. Better than all of the Brazilians, Mia Hamm, etc. I know most on here don't care, but that's a pretty awesome accomplishment for UF & tSEC to claim.

- While there isn't a unanimous GOAT in football, I consider Peyton Manning the best QB in nfl history.

- Emmitt Smith is the all-time leading rusher in nfl history.

- Shaq is the best center and most dominant player in NBA history (imo).

- Ryan Lochte has the 2nd most olympic medals in swimming all-time, behind some guy named Michael Phelps.

Which other SEC athletes belong in this elite group....I don't care which sport it is either (except quidditch LSU)

Eta: and this is strictly speaking on a professional level. So Tim Tebow does not qualify for this thread, as he is only the greatest college football player of all-time.

John Hannah is probably the GOAT lineman.

Not this guy.

Honestly, the only person on your list who is even arguably the GOAT in their sport is Wambach, though I would still take Hamm.

Peak shaq is probably the greatest center of all time, but if we consider actual level of play throughout their entire career? Give me Kareem

I agree with Shaq being the most dominate. I would also add Pistol in as the most talented basketball player. I would not call him the best player though.
Eta: didn't read the edit, but I will still keep Pistol up there.
Extremely talented, just not really a team player, from what I have heard.

LSU definitely dominates women's track

Muna Lee-7-time national champion, 12 time SEC champion, 20 timr all-american

Kimberlyn Duncan-7 time national champion, 12 time SEC champion, 14 time All-American

Had Xavier Carter not gone pro in track so early and not been such a shithead, he would have been arguably the greatest of all time. In TWO seasons, he won 7 NCAA titles and was a 10-time All American. What a shame and the true definition of a world class talent. To think as a sophomore, he broke Jessie Owens' single meet NCAA title record. Unreal. Also a shame he couldn't catch a football to save his life. UGA fans, in case you do not remember, he was the einstein who took a knee at the 1 yard line in 2004. UGA was out for blood that day

Also, I guess I am just going by NCAA history. Duncan is young into her career, so she could end up the best of all time. Carter will never get the chance.

As far as all time, Shaq probably is the best center of all time. Jamarcus russell was the greatest purp' drankin NFL bust of all time. And maybe Donnie Jones could be the best punter in NFL history? Not too knowledgeable of the all time greats for that one

ETA: Pat Henry
also ETA: Dawn Sowell was widely considered to be named the fastest woman of all time (even today) but suffered a hamstring injusry in 1989 to end her career. She ran a 10.7 100m dash and 22 flat 200 meter. For anyone who follows track even casually, that is absolutely absurd. She would still be faster than most male athletes who have access to much stronger supplements. She won three national titles at LSU before going pro.

It's late, and I should be studying. I'd rather procrastinate, so for it to be a waste is relative. Mostly it's a few "what could have beens". Muna Lee pretty sure has a bronze medal. In fact I noted they were the best in NCAA history, so halfway through I realized my mistake and explained why I typed it. But hey, Shaq is the best center in NBA history, so there 'ya go.

there's no need to be a douche about it.

ETA: Pretty safe to say Xavier Carter would have won a few Olympic medals had he decided not to get arrested at a gas station for standing on his Range Rover with a gun in each hand, and Dawn Sowell not had her career-ending injury. I guess they'll just settle for the best sprinters in NCAA history.

Did he make it to the HOF this year? It's an absolute disgrace if he hasn't. Biscuit ate QB's for lunch every Saturday.

Show me the highlights of someone more gifted with a basketball. I didn't say he was the best. Just the most talented with the ball.
