But raising a $5,000 fine to $50,000...for a FIRST TIME OFFENSE, just because of the "ideas" thrown out at a yearly meeting by some already VERY rich commissioners, is a ludicrous penalty in my opinion.

meh

This just in:

SEC schools to each receive record $31.07 million payout

I don't think this applies in some cases, kick 6 for example. Let's say those guards were paid $40 an hour. Sure, they would have been more diligent in maybe nabbing the first person they saw. And yes, I realize "mob mentality" (for lack of a better phrase) is real. But even with the guards detaining one person each, all it would take is 1 to make it through (which would be easy, unless they formed a human wall), then the rest would follow and in about 10 seconds those guards would look up and realize their efforts would be completely and utterly hopeless.

Even if the fine was 5 million, how do you keep 25K fans, even 5K fans, from rushing the field like the kick 6? Its not like they are fining each individual.

they'd have to hire dozens of more cops for the off chance there might be an upset and fans might rush the field, an event that doesn't occur very often at any school.

Would still be cheaper than what they would have to pay if they were sued because someone was injured.

What's next? Install fences like at NASCAR races to limit the advance of rowdy crowds?

We get UGA and Bama back home this year too, so Auburn might start thinking about saving some money for "future expenses". If those games are anywhere near as exicitng as 2013...and we win...then my arse is rushing the field just because the SEC decided to raise the fine from $5,000 to $50,000.

I am a man of principle. Don't nickle and dime me. You are already rich enough.

What BDS has would be pretty effective. Walkway + metal fence + bushes. Then put extra security along the student section end zone.

How many people have to be on the field for it to be considered "rushing the field"?

Obviously one or two wouldn't get you fined but where's the line drawn?

Jordan Hare has bushes that people dove into. Metal fences people jumped over. And went through extra security near the student section.

So try again.

That's really not comparable to what BDS has at all.

if someone was injured it would be a result of his/her own negligence. that lawsuit wouldn't go very far

I never said that as a collective of the fanbase. Personally, I would try to get out of the way. However, if we didn't rush the field in 2009 after Cody blocked the kick against Tennessee, I don't see it ever happening. I think the entire student section moved down 3 rows, but I didn't see anyone try to get on the field.

A&M never had a problem with that. They threw on every down.

Not necessarily. You could just be unlucky enough to be on the front row with nowhere to go while people all around you are pushing toward the field. I can easily see that lawsuit going to the university.

It could be another situation like Hillsborough. Yes, the exact same thing is unlikely to happen, but people can easily be crushed/trampled.

I don't know for sure. Ask Mississippi State and their "cow bell issues". The SEC makes these stupid rules and amendments...rescinds them...re-defines those rules...and comes up with "new, more expensive penalties" every single year as a result.

I don't care how many millions of dollars that this conference is now making.

DON'T NICKLE AND DIME US as a result.

Some things like the Kick 6 are....

PRICELESS

I have nothing to "rethink."

Football was almost made illegal in the 1890's due to the "severity of the sport" after a couple of deaths. Random statistics just happen some time. This is a passionate sport. Have you actually played football before, or just watched it on your television...just an honest question.

That being said, there are risks everywhere in life. Sit at home, if you like, and just watch it on TV.
