Many would tell you that Stoutland (The OL coach after Pendry) made a lot of poor evaluations and Cristobal has been having to play with a shitty hand.

Could be. Pendry was one of the best and most are a downgrade, but I never thought I would see the day when Bama could not effectively run the ball under Nick Saban.

Gumps are frustrating Nick by being upset with a 1 point win and I see his point. We have some fans that feel the same way about our win over Fla.

What Nick is running into now is a group of kids that think just because they put on the Bama uniform they are entitled to success. Based on his comments from his latest presser my guess is he's trying to change that mindset every day and is struggling to do so.

I will agree with Saban on one thing though. The players showed as much emotion after the Collins pick as I have seen this year. The team might not be playing great football right now but at least they are playing hard.

Loved that reaction from the Bama players last Saturday. I haven't seen that in quite a while, even sometimes after championship games.

I do think the expectations have taken a little bit of the pure joy out of the game for the players, coaches, and fans. It was good to see that spontaneous reaction from the Bama players when Collins intercepted the ball.

The MO of Saban's Alabama's teams seem to have been intense focus on the specific tasks at hand, make no mistakes, and "reinforcement" trending towards the negative rather than the positive. It has worked beyond what anybody could have reasonably expected 7 years ago.

Each year of success continues to raise the expectations to the point where I'm sure at some point it becomes too burdensome for some players and affects their performance in a negative way. Every team is different and maybe he is starting to realize a different approach might be needed with this group. Seemed like he was trying to change the narrative in the media (and with fans) because he thinks that it's what this particular team might respond better to.

I have no problem with any of his comments. LOL at fans and media getting their feelings hurt. Saban is all about maximizing the performance of his players and if he thinks scolding the media and fans and changing the narrative about this team is the way to do it, fine by me.

I think it is the media more than the fanbase. The media (who hasnt picked the conference winner correctly since the 1990's)
picked Bama to win the SEC and have a much louder voice than the fanbase.

That is where the unrealistically high expectations comes from that the team hears about, on sportscenter, not the Bud light drankin TV fan.

A bama beat writer was on one of the sports talk shows yesterday & commented that while he agreed with Saban re his comments about too high expectations, he added that that attitude has always been around, & will always be around, bama's football program, i.e. point being, if he's frustrated now, he's in for a bigger melt down sooner rather than later as those expectations will never go away. My take is that every team in college football goes through various cycles, and what bama is experiencing now is tied to the huge upgrade in the competition within the division itself as much as anything else. The West has never been this strong.

The truth here is that Saban is the one with a sense of entitlement. He believes that his past record should immunize him from any fan restlessness. And being a narcissist, he has a need to have his ego massaged. He is entitled to his opinion and you are entitled to share it. Or he's going to pout. This isn't new. This is who Little Screamy is .Trust me, if things go really south, and he feels like he's being "let down" by Bama fans lack of proper adoration, he will move on down the road. You Gumps better make an over-the-top- public display of fealty or this could get interesting.

On your knees.

I saw someone on another board arguing that it's probably more fun to build a program than maintain one.

Saban's obviously well, well past building at this point and is on to maintaining. It's mind-boggling to me that a fanbase can be restless after such recent, amazing levels of success. I'd give a lot for an SEC title, let alone three BCS titles in four years.

He's one of the best ever. Period. I can't imagine being upset with him because of some minor slips that see his team only ranked 6 or 7 instead of 1 or 2.

Upvote.

Exactly. Can't see many fans going up to Saban and voicing displeasure about a win. He is just"playing the game"

This entire "situation" is simply a load of crap. In a couple of weeks after we've beaten A&M, Tenn, and LSU nobody will remember any of this...what a waste of time.

There was a lot of questioning during the 60's Slide when some at Bama wanted to run Bryant off before he reinvented himself with the wishbone.

i spent four of those years in Atlanta. Local television carried his show every Sunday afternoon. There were Bama fans everywhere.

And "The Constitution" covered every single SEC game in those days.

I heard some grumbling, but never anyone of substance wanting to run The Bear off.

I've grown immune to Coach Saban's pressers. After all these years, I just don't give a rip how he chooses to deal with the media morons.

You and others haven't got a clue what CNS is doing, because he is one of the greatest coached of all time

CNS, just as he did midway through 2009, after the Tennessee and USCe games, took the pressure of the kids, by lambasting the media and nay saying fans.

A win in the SECwest on the road is a great thing.

This takes all the pressure off the players who now think we did a good thing on the road, not a bad thing.

To hell with the media or the fans, if CNS can give the kids confidence I am with him.

That's why he's making 7.5 million and you're own tugherdroppings.com.

He is sensing the decline.
He just knows all it would take is 3 or 4 losses this year and next and losing to Auburn for him to be fired from Bama. He is stupid if he thinks he is going to make Bama fans see reality. Calling them out isn't going to change anything. People have been doing it for years and they only seem to get worse.

I think this is part of what makes Saban a great coach. He said similar stuff when he was at LSU all the time. Greg McElroy caused a stir during the summer when he made the comments about Saban establishing a mindset at LSU, but I think there's a lot of merit to what McElroy said.

Fans have a tendency to develop a lot of idiotic, dysfunctional ideas and attitudes. I find it refreshing that Saban will rebuke the BS.

Even if everybody agreed that Saban was finished, he'd never be fired. He's going out like Mack Brown, whenever that may be.
