The presumed "Big-10 dominance" is backed only by a subjective human ranking system largely based on how many losses a team has.
Everyone claimed Big-10 dominance last year and SEC downturn. The Big-10 went 5-5 in bowls while the SEC went 9-2.
Until the SEC ceases to dominate the recruiting landscape and ceases to be willing to spend $ it will be hard to convince me that it is no longer the premier conference, and a few folks sitting around in a room declaring Team A is elite while Team B is mediocre with one or two losses separating them and completely different schedules isn't enough.
I think we are seeing the results of 1) much-needed coaching transition in the East and 2) a bunch of pretty decent teams in the West beating each other up with very little separation between them outside of Bama.
