It's the game you play with a true freshman, so you take chances and continue to try and develop but then potentially lose a late game or protect your record. Came up just a bit short last year but hard to say the wrong decision was made. Too many injuries to overcome with a true freshman QB but that's football. With spring, fall and the early season to go, hopefully he develops that confidence in his passing game he was missing in the national championship

Saban and Kiffin are just gonna keep throwing passive aggressive shots at each other. I love it

yea, In games where they were throwing the ball a lot, Saban (and the fan base) told Kiffen to "run the damn ball". now, it's "we didn't throw it enough".

face it, Hurts ain't no passing guy.

He did to an extent but there in lies the problem. He couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle. We his McElroy and Coker's deficiencies as well with a great power run game. Kiffin got to cute with that east west crap. Honestly if I don't see a jet sweep Saturday, I'll be happy.

He was a true freshman who carved up the SEC. Struggled against two of the best teams in the country at the end of the year. I imagine he gets better over the next couple years, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

He may get better real quick but I wouldn't force it. The next OC can't just come in expecting him to effectively throw all the routes. I'd continue utilizing the strengths- maximizing that potential and any thing extra is gravy. I mean he won SEC POTY so it's not a knock on him that he is more effective with his feet.

But he also benefited from D's not knowing what they were getting in to. Late in the season teams stopped worry as much about the mid level receivers as his running ability when defending. He still made some plays but teams aren't going to stop doing that until he starts hitting those receivers.

To get to where the team wants to go he has to improve on his intermediate passing game and his confidence in his throws. I think both of those will come with time.

If that can happen, he will be an absolute nightmare outside of the pocket with his running ability and if he can add some more touch on the deep ball who knows what he is capable of. Only time will tell.

I see a lot of hope in this thread that Jalen Hurts doesn't develop as a passer. I mean, he already beat all your asses as is. I'm guess y'all don't want to see next season if he improves.

That's the beauty of it, he's 18 years old and he led us to an SEC crown last year. If he stays the exact same for the next 3 years, we'll still be fine. If he gets better as a 19 or 20 year old, look out.

As the smarter Bama fan said above, the information on Jalen is out now. Don't be so foolish. "The exact same" was a train wreck the last couple games.

soooo much hope

cross your fingers fellas the off season and over for awhile

if he comes out next season and looks like he did last year against FSU then you all probably still lose - if he comes out and shows improvement getting the ball downfield you're all fricked

so keep on hoping it's the best you can do

Witty clarification. Sort of like Alabama beat Clemson if games were 59:58. But they're 60:00 minutes.

We will keep his points down. I'm not even worried about that.

I'm sure you're not. But just to bring everyone back on board, Alabama has had a first year starting QB in each of the last three seasons. We lost two conference games total over that stretch, both to Ole Miss. This year we know who our QB is going into the season.

Food for thought.

In the last game of the season Jalen led Alabama offense to 31 pts which usually means for Alabama a win...does anyone question the preparedness of the defense in which CNS is more involved with

As usual, Saban is 100% correct.

You could tell he had been coached to play tentative. He was so focused on not making any mistakes it hurt his down the field passing a lot.

It became very noticeable the last 4-5 games of the year.

The strategy was for him to not screw up and let the defense win the game, which worked fine until we played a high powered, up tempo offense with a lot of talent that wore us out because the offense couldn't get a damn first down.

Not when the defense was on the field for 99 plays because the offense was going three and out the entire second half unable to or unwilling to run the football like we did the first half. Remember Watson was held in check through 3 quarters of football. The offense job is not to just score points. There comes a time when you need your offense to slow the game down and eat clock. Bama does that the second half and we're arguing if they will win three ina row. Kiffin dumb arse forgot that. It's not just about scoring points, if it was the PAC 12 and Big12 would be killing it in the playoffs.
