Both is the correct answer.

3-0 head to head vs Hugh Freeze.

Imagine getting out recruited by Roll Tide Willie.

Recruiting this early is almost irrelevant. If Bama drops off recruits will just ship.

Did recruits drop off when Auburn completed their 3rd consecutive losing season?

Or is Auburn just such a special place that this wasn’t a problem?

Auburn changed coaches for the better. Bama just hired some random coach because he didn't play anyone and won with a Heisman level QB. He hasn't proven he can win anything sec wise and they will be comparing him to what Saban had Bama at. Without that Bama might as well be back in the Shula era. Only Bama fans think they are just going to be good because they are Bama.

Only because there wasn't a worse hire you could make than the previous one.

I'm not young and I fully remember Bama being an average team before Saban with a few good years sprinkled in. They wore around their shirts with 12 on it living off what the Bear did. They are only a couple average year from going back there if their coach can't convince recruits he can win in the sec.

For anyone keeping score, Mike Shula had fewer losing seasons during his tenure at Alabama than Auburn has had over the last 3 seasons.

He also coached when the conference had 2 or 3 teams worth mentioning a year and didn't play but maybe one.

But if that's the route you are going then that's a long drop from competing for NCs to just bragging about winning seasons.

He coached against Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer, Mark Richt, Phillip Fulmer, etc.

Yeah and basically owned Bama during that time. We also went undefeated and basically got screwed out of playing the NC because the sec wasn't considered top notch at the time.

No, in fact he was at a university crippled by some of the most severe scholarship sanctions in the history of the NCAA, playing with barely 60 players on scholarship for several years.

That had not happened prior, and unless it happens again - you can kiss that dream goodbye.

Oh, for sure. A Top 50 recruit in the nation is a big ol’ nobody.

Thanks.
