I actually thought Lashlee calls pretty decent games, but if Gus is just going to continuously frick with it because he still views Rhett as a GA then it doesn't really matter.

Plus, we need someone who can work with QBs.

Damn, he took a 250k per year pay cut just to get away from Gus and Kristi. With CT taxes he probably won't be able to clothe his kids.

Lashlee played QB for Malzahn back when he coached at the very small, private Arkansas high school Shiloh Christian.

That's how far back Lashlee's connection with Gus goes.

The fact that he's leaving The Barn for the same position at UCONN is shocking.

Sign of desperation, one way, the other, or both, I'd say.

Or, in reality, higher-ups told Gus to make him look elsewhere and are bringing in someone that Gus won't treat like a twelve-year-old

But whatever floats that NWA boat

I just don't see what's shocking about it. Auburn needs a shake up. Lashlee is too tied to Gus and with Gus potentially on the way out soon, Lashlee is in danger of having missed his chance to stake out an individual reputation.

Serves both their interests to seek change, IMO. Now, Lashlee taking a 50% pay cut is going to suck for him, but in the long run this may be a very good move for his career.

Pettifogger, the fact that it's Connecticut and a six-digit pay cut are both shocking in this case.

He's made over 2 million in the past 4 years and will ONLY be making 350k at Uconn. Hope they have good food stamp programs up there.

colecubelic: Spoke to @rhettlashlee tonight. Told me while he loves Auburn he wanted the opportunity to run his own offense & further develop as a coach.

1) UConn is fine, probably considerably better than going to most non-major schools in the southeast

2) Paycut is whatever, but let's be honest, Rhett isn't worth what he's getting at AU on the open market. If he succeeds at UConn, which I suspect he will, it'll help validate his better times at Auburn and he'll get more credit for both tenures. He'll then be in a much better position to make the jump to a major OC job (apart from Gus) or a mid level HC job (like UConn).

It was time. I am not smart enough to know why, but Auburns offense was dysfunctional at times. Also as others have said, he needs to cut the apron strings and now is a good time to do it. Edsall had some success at UCONN previously and if he can generate a buzz and they have a good year Lashlee could step to a better job. The pay cut is a head scratcher though.
