Let’s do some historical analysis.

SECRant 2021 rewind

The problem I see with some of this is experience vs vets vs talent.

Example Ms St. They returned alot last year, but what they returned was also the youngest team.

Just saying "returning production" does not equal experienced vets. It also does not mean that the production was great either.

A lot goes into it. Sticking with Ms St, they return 17 or 18 starters much like last year. The difference is they are now more than just returning starters, they are seasoned returning starters.

Sure but replacing 9 starters on defense..lost most starting RBs/WRs from last season

Going into 2021, Our passing game situation was a complete mess due to injuries, and we lost a uga record number of players to the 2021 draft.

Somehow we dominated our schedule, won the national title, and yet you wonder why we are confident and not worried?

I look at what we return, not just what we lost. We have a NC QB, one of the best receiving corps in the country, a very good o-line, one of the best secondaries in the country, and since 2018, we’ve been 1/2/1/1 in overall recruiting. Talent is not an issue.

Using percentages is misleading. Sometimes having a lower percentage of statistics could still be more yards/stats than a team with a higher percentage of stats coming back. (Not sure if this is clear) Also, some teams will still have more talent coming back.

Why is it assumed Georgia will win the East/play in SECCG this year?

Miss. St. and Tennessee concern me more than any other team on our schedule...and oddly enough, Miss St. more than Tennessee. Other teams COULD beat us, but I don't see it, personally. Coaching counts, too.

Because they play in an extremely weak division and recruit at a high level. They’re basically the Clemson of the SEC East.

9 people (to this point) have downvoted this past, but if we are completely honest, you are correct. The east seems to be slowly getting better, but it has a long way to go.

I see South Carolina improving, Kentucky and Tennessee. Florida is tough but needs to take the next step up (Mullen did them not favors) Missouri could be decent but not yet...and Vandy is Vandy.

I mean it's not as good as the west, but i think you are overstating it. Wasn't LSU 1-1 against the east last season and only beat a bad Florida team by 7 points?

This will help. Easiest schedule in the SEC according to Phill Steele.

THE SEC

Toughest: AUBURN (No. 1 nationally)

Easiest: GEORGIA (No. 58 nationally)

Defending national champion Georgia does open the season vs. Oregon in Atlanta but draws Mississippi State as its rotating opponent from the wild SEC West, thereby avoiding Alabama, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and LSU all together. The Bulldogs also get the benefit of drawing Tennessee, which may finally be positioned to vie for an East division crown, at home.

In fairness here are some other gems from Phil Steele from last seasons predictions:

National Champion: Oklahoma Sooners
Most improved team: Penn State Nittany Lions
Heisman Trophy winner: Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler
Surprise team of the year: Washington Huskies
Largest margin of victory per game: Alabama Crimson Tide (+28.6 PPG differential)
Team projected to lose games by the largest amount: Bowling Green (-25.8 PPG differential)
Largest yards per game differential: Clemson Tigers (+257.1 YPG differential)
Worst yards per game differential: UMass Minutemen (-241.2 YPG differential)

They are better and a lot more talented than Clemson who would lose 2-4 games a year with an SEC schedule.

I might be wrong...but I don't think he was comparing us to Clemson so much as saying we are a very strong team that is head and shoulders (right now) above our competition. (That could change as Tennessee, S. Carolina and Florida could all make significant progress. Can Kentucky? Maybe.)

Maybe that's not what he meant, but that is the way I read it.

We actually bring back more WRs from last season than we had. We had 3-4 WRs that missed excessive time due to injuries that should return. Blaylock, Arian Smith, Kearis Jackson (Played a decent amount but was relegated to punt returns a lot due to nagging injuries) We are very confident with the WRs we have coming back. (We also are returning AD Mitchess (caught a 40 yd TD against Alabama in title game) and Ladd McConkey who played a ton. We get back Arik Gilbert, who by all accounts is making huge progress (Mentally and physically) and Darnell Washington who was injured last season a good bit.

The east? Yes. The SEC? No. Alabama should be king again.

We will rightfully be favored in every game. So, yeah I expect it. TennerC should be our toughest challenge and we have them at home. And Florida can be a throw out the records kind of game because of the rivalry but we should win. I expect us to go undefeated and probably be the underdog in the SECCG.

Is there something funny about someone recovering from physical and/or mental struggles?

Seasoned low 3 stars vs. incoming 4 and 5 stars...helps to even things out, but not really.

Something “funny” about UGA fans believing he’s cured. Dude is mentally fragile and a quitter. He’s wasting at roster post at a D1 school. Left him drop to a G5 school with less pressure and see if he can actually keep his shite together.

Miss St quietly had a decent season in 2021. Finished with a winning record, with a couple of upsets over A&M and Kentucky, and half of their losses were by three points or less.

No one is paying attention to them, but don’t forget about Mike Leach. This is the type of experienced team he likes.

I don’t expect them to pull off a 10 win season, but they might create a lot of havoc in the West standings, and end up in a crazy scenario like a four way tie for second place behind Bama.

Something funny about an adult misunderstanding the concept of recoverING.
