Damn. If only Colt hadn't gotten one side of his body crushed in by one Marcell Darius.

Selective enforcement was a big part of how the NCAA’s credibility crumbled.

Wasn't this related to players selling back free books? I don't believe that's covered under NIL unless they happened to autograph them.

Try again. NIL =/= Pay-for-play

I agree. But that isn't relevant to the discussion

The SMU scandal was a direct pay-for-play.

SMU would have utilized NIL to purchase players. Just like programs are doing now.

Reggie Bush was given improper benefits and stripped of his trophy. USC was hit with sanctions. We can all see now that Bush’s Heisman was rightfully given back because his “infraction” wouldn’t hold up with new rules influenced by the courts.

Your argument is nothing more than being pedantic. If we can retroactively repair an infraction because the new rules no longer apply, we should do so for all who have been damaged by an unconstitutional rule.
Thus supporting:

When a rule has been deemed "unconstitutional", it really nullifies said rule.

This is a dumb take... the money did not affect his performance on the field whatsoever.

It is now pay for play.

Texas has tried to truly utilize NIL. As of end of 2023, I know athletes have endorsement deals with larger brands like American Airlines, 7-Eleven, HeyDude, C4, Lamborghini, Fortnite, Sonic, Ralph Lauren, DoorDash as well as plenty of local businesses. Heck, the OL has their own TV commercial. (It’s not great )

Good. USC should be given back its wins and 2004 national championship as well, and LSU should be given back its wins from when Vadal Alexander was here.

Vacating wins after the fact is just stupid.

Violations for stuff that would be legal now under NIL rules should be pardoned and expunged. It’s just like the proposals in Congress to legalize weed and pardon/expunge criminal records for people who used it recreationally.

Ok. Prove it. Show me where it’s written that pay-for-play is legal.

But they didn’t. They pay-for-played. It doesn’t matter what they “would have done”. It only matters what they did.

And what they did was pay-for-play.

Reggie Bush was given improper benefits and stripped of his trophy.

The benefits were from marketing agents looking to represent him. You are correct in that this falls under NIL and is the reason why he is being given his trophy back. That, once again, is not pay-for-play.

quote:

Your argument is nothing more than being pedantic. If we can retroactively repair an infraction because the new rules no longer apply, we should do so for all who have been damaged by an unconstitutional rule.

And your argument is dogshit because you can’t understand the fact that pay-for-play is not legal under NIL rules. Thus, SMU has no leg to stand on because what they did is still against current rules.

Whether it's legal or not is besides the fact that pay for play is what NIL has succumbed to.

A federal judge has already prohibited the NCAA from enforcing its pay for play rules on top of that and that ban will hold until the lawsuit is over. Pay for
play is here

The book deal was a couple of football players went to summer school and were able to check out several books which were not used in their class. They had friends who were taking classes which used those books. Instead of buying the books they needed the football players checked them out and let their pals use them. They were to to give the books back to the players who would then check them back in to the school.
They got ratted out and everything blew up.
I will always believe that Phil Phillmer the fat sob turned them in.

If the Heisman had been given out after the title game there is a case. But it isn’t and Reggie was by no means a bad selection. Anyone who feels different is simply in denial, still. Give them the 04 title back as well since it was Reggie’s stuff primarily that led to stripping it.
