My condolences on being poor, uneducated and having to live vicariously through sports.

I'm curious to know who, if anyone, finished in the top 4 and then sucked the entire 4 years.

I still have a fair bit of emotional investment in sports, but as others have said, priorities in life change. Relationships, health, career. Those things are more important.

I honestly don't have time. I have other things going on in my life and the only attendance that hasn't eroded is football, and even that is waning primarily because I've gone to every campus that I want to see and I have a newborn.

given that we now have a baby, my wife is no longer interested in going to away games and I hate being away from her. add to that being away from the baby and away games are about to some to screeching halt for me.

the most fun I had last season was foregoing my season tickets in the upper deck to sneak into the lower bowl, which I did with impunity. I've gotten pretty decent at it. of course, it was easy when you're playing kent st or whoever. haven't worked up the nerve to try for a big sec game when it's not raining.

I remember ESPN claiming Miami had the best recruiting class in 2008 (when Alabama got Ingram, Jones, Dareus and others). They then went:

2008: 7-6
2009: 9-4
2010: 7-6
2011: 6-6

Not really suckage, but very mediocre

When you're a kid, you think you can affect game outcomes and "help" your team by how much you cheer/support/ etc...

When you become an adult, you see that sports (like most things in life) are politics and a money game.

Adulthood sucks.

Wow. I'd say you are wrong, in most cases, and not just for Bama fans. Would you believe for an instant that there are no Auburn, LSU, or Georgia fans in existence that hold no degree from the university they support?

Some people are just fans. Without sidewalk fans most SEC teams would have a gameday crowd that looks like a clam baking seminar in Arizona.

I'd imagine any of those people would love a PHD from Vandy. They will never have that. A winning record from the team they cheer is something that unites us all.

Wait until your kids are grown and you hemorrhage money to a rival school to complete their education. THEN sports quit meaning so much.

You grow up and realize that sports are entertainment. That's the bottom line.

Things take priority over sports that weren't there in high school or as an undergrad. I also slowly realize it isn't as big as a deal as I previously thought.

I think that for most of my life, in my imagination, college sports have been that "pure thing" my dad loved back in the 60s. Each year I realize more that they are just another marketing/advertising mechanism.
