The old Auburn go to, claim that an anonymous internet poster that you have absolutely no idea who they are didn't go to a Alabama.

well, LSU is already fighting an uphill battle.... I admit it, and thus, part of my reason for hoping Sparty goes in dry and then wipes himself on your curtains.

As for Auburn in '04 mentioned by others, in the current 4-team state of affairs Auburn is the 3rd seed and gets to face Vince Young in the semis. As the playoff expands from 4 teams to the alleged 6 or 8, there will be even more wiggle room for SEC teams to get in. I want LSU to be the best looking, most upward trending SEC team there is at the end of November and also after the bowl games.

There are cases where I root for USCe or Mississippi State. *Those* are the teams in the middling area that need good showings and probably raise the water level for all SEC teams. Plus, I like South Cackalacky.

Uh, the chances of success are like 80% with this particular gambit

Since the SECCG in 92, how many times has a 1 or 0 loss SEC champ not made the title game/playoffs? The only one offhand I can recall is Auburn in 04, where the preseason 1 and 2 teams both went wire to wire undefeated so that's really more of a case of crap luck. Are there any others?

You act like if the SEC doesn't have multiple teams with 10 or 11 wins than the SEC Champ is just going to be tossed aside.
Take a look at the Big-12 this year. Three 1- loss teams and because the league strength is not perceived to be top-to-bottom strong, there was little conversation about a 2nd team in the playoffs. Now look at the SEC (ramember LSU/Ala. nat'l championship game?) when there were only 2 teams and tell me the conference doesn't benefit from a great reputation.

that year had nothing to do with "the SEC" and everythign to do with bama and lsu. Remember bama and lsu both started the year in the top 3, so whether they played a super hard league or a pedestrian one, as long as they kept winning they'd be fine.

Second, I think we can all agree that the last year or 2 the SEC's national brand has lost a bit of luster over the previous decade, right? I don't think there's any arguing there

And you like a low national perception of the SEC and a diminished chance of making the playoff. In short, you're not very intelligent.

You obviously aren't very intelligent.

The SEC bias isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future, regardless of whether you fricks win your bowls.

Don't be dumb.

No one has ever shown that the SEC having a winning bowl record helps LSU recruiting.

While I agree with this, I'm pretty convinced that a perceived strong SEC helped a 2 loss LSU get into the NCG in 2007. And I would add that with the new playoff system/committee, it would seem that strength of schedule is of even more importance. So if SEC teams start losing out of conference games often, that sure isn't going look good for the overall strength of schedule for our conference.

I really only want LSU to win. I think Alabama losing isn't a bad thing for LSU. No one has ever proven that Alabama winning helps LSU recruiting. No one has ever shown that the SEC having a winning bowl record helps LSU recruiting.
No one has ever proved that Bama losing in bowl games is going to stop Saban from whooping Les Miles' arse in November either

Considering how much emphasis the committee puts on conference championships, it would take a weird, strange fluke for any league to get two teams in the playoff.

Also, the Big 12 doesn't get punished for being perceived as a weaker conference, they get punished because they haven't expanded to 12 teams and had a conference championship since Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado all jumped ship. That's why Baylor didn't get in last year.

Recruiting would be worse if everyone in the sec lost all the time.

Nick is just a hell of a salesman. One of the first things he said to the players when his regime started was, "what are you selling?"

So what are you selling? That you're afraid to compete? It's hard so I don't wanna work hard? What are you selling to me, right now?

There were really no other viable options that season. Ohio State was obvious, but take a look at who else would have been in contention that season:

Kansas (11-1): They didn't even play for the conference title.
Virginia Tech (11-2): LSU beat them 48-7.
West Virginia (10-2): They were a lock to get in against OSU until they lost to Pitt. Still the most shocked I've ever been after watching a college football team. They would have slaughtered OSU.
Georgia (10-2): Didn't even play for the conference title.
USC (10-2): That home loss to 41 point underdog Stanford took them out of the conversation.
Oklahoma (11-2): Maybe the only other legitimate candidate, there was a real case to put them in but LSU was ranked ahead of them for almost the entire season.
Hawaii (12-0):

So you think losing the Texas Bowl might run off a couple recruits from LSU?
