That is what really happened. JLS cost Arkansas a shot at a national title or a BCS bowl because NAMES. A competent coach would have made a huge difference. Your false dichotomy of JLS OR changing everything is just that. You can get a competent coach and part of that competence would be understanding that you go with what you have. The good news would be that the competent coach would run the ball to sew up the back in of winnable games.
Your premise is flawed. The only way to avoid what you speak was to hire a head coach to call the offensive plays, that is the biggest difference between the Bobby era and year of the Paul.

Arkie needs to get the pass happy offensive guru out of their minds...they will keep on getting crap beat outta them by the top defenses in the SEC every year. You need a no nonsense defense first coach that will install a run oriented field position offense and rock solid run defense to compete with LSU & Bama. If you are satisfied with 7-5 or maybe 8-4 seasons then go ahead and hire a coach who will throw the ball 50 times. It will be entertaining until you get taken behind the woodshed by very good defenses.

Sure, because a head coach can't tell his coordinators what to do because he isn't the play caller. Come on. You wasted a year on a guy who has consistently proven he can't get the job done. Glad he knows the names and staff. That was virtually all he brought to the table.

Actually we need a good 50/50 pass run offense with a coach who gives a frick about defense.
If we play like Bama/LSU in coaching hiring we will lose to them on the field.
Bobby Petrino was not pass happy, Paul Petrino is.

He was brought in because he was the only head coaching hire who would agree to leave the whole staff in place. The flawed logic was that only a CEO type head coach was needed. Obviously a head coach bringing in a OC was needed, or JLS actually having authority over the staff.
Good news is try outs are over, we'll be going outside this staff for the next hire.

How does Kirby Smart not have a HC gig somewhere, yet? Is he an idiot savant solving defensive schemes like Rainman counting toothpicks, but otherwise thoroughly useless and incapable?
Seriously, he's like Brent Venebles, only with less used car salesman haircuts.

According to rumor he has passed on at least 3.
He is well paid at Bama and seems to be waiting on the "right" job to come along.

I cannot argue with this at all knowing what we know now.

Yeah, it is tough. Hopefully Mitchell, Allen, or some combination can get Arkansas back in the thick of things next year when a real coach takes over.

We'll all pay you to take David Yost. Seriously.

With any sort of coach next year's offense should be ok. While there are a couple of you, bright spots on defense I am not sure things will be much better.

Lose our top three RBs, Top WR, Top TE, Top QB.

Remember that shitty show in HBO about the surfer's and the guy who was either an alien or God, but the show was cancelled before we found out which?
That is what I'm reminded of when I hear "Yost".

I meant ok as just ok, not ok as in great.

Its going to be basically a complete rebuild like 08, probably not as bad but close.
The next HC needs to do a better job of building the program on solid ground.

No doubt about that. I still expect a more talented team than 08 though.
