For a multi-page thread about SEC baseball, there's an awful lot of SEC baseball fail being posted by the SECr members...

It's ok
Van Horn also benefits from kids begging to play at Arkansas too. The school has made a huge investment in baseball. On the other hand Bianco also does a lot more with less, same as Cohen. And he also has a huge issue with keeping his teams focused. OM has had huge wins with him but a lot of head scratching losses As well. Van Horn, having the preseason #1 ranking I feels failed to capitalize on that.

and a team with 90% of the contributors being recruited during the "dumpster fire" stages after Polk left. That f'n counts for something.

Your damn right it does. Bianco refuses to sign kids who play ugly, badass, swagged up, dirt bag baseball. Those kids are fricking tough. Bianco has been trying to cherry pick "talent" from elite camps and elite travel teams and ignoring the guys who play the game with attitude and arrogance. Exactly the kind of kids McDonnell signed and we have not touched since he left.

quote:

He's done this with very little elite highschool talent. Even the two guys we developed into first rounders were late picks/undrafted in highschool and truly only gave us 1 dominant year each.

Again, Bianco can't even comprehend this statement. If they aren't 1st rounders out of HS or JUCOs looking for a place to put in 1 year before the draft, they are invisible to Biancos blind arse.

quote:

What do you think he's going to do now that "we're back" and getting elite national guys?

Kick the shite out of the rest of the conference.

Sorry for Gator Chomping on our home field when we earned a spot to Omaha I guess?

Agreed on recruiting but we get smoked by the MLB draft every year, as do other schools but its always pretty bad with us. I usually never get that excited over our top 2-3 recruits because they usually never make it to campus. It's a great problem to have in a way while also sucking arse. In the end I think it kind of mitigates the recruiting advantage we have.

How long have those coaches been at their schools? What was the roster like when they inherited them?

Corbin sure didn't take over a program that made it to a regional five of the previous seven years, and a CWS in 2007.

To put things in perspective, in the history of the program, Vanderbilt baseball had been to three NCAA tournaments prior to Corbin's arrival.

You were dropped on your head as a kid huh?

Maineri has a CWS title. Been to Omaha 3 times. Has an SEC title. Several SEC West titles, and a better tan.

PM has 4 SEC tournament titles to Cohen's 1. Including 3 in a row.

To top it off I can't remember the last time State has won a series vs LSU.

His success in Omaha was due to inheriting a team that I could've taken to Omaha.

Not sure if serious? Not interested in casting stones, but like Frank Barone on Raymond said, "I'd like a minute for rebuttal."

You are exactly right on your assessment of Bianco btw... Your assessment on us is yet to be seen.

Very, very key that we hold onto Butch Thompson in the future. His ties to MS give us a pretty good chance hopefully -- as well as Cohen letting him basically be HC of the pitching staff with little-to-no interference. Need to pay him even more than we currently are and match HC $$ offers within reason. Because he's about to be showered with them...I was really worried when the other two SEC schools he's coached at had HC jobs open up this year.

That's the most misleading shite ever and you know it.

Cohen "inherited" a total dumpster fire at MSU which was practically on a death penalty. Our program had been slowly wasting away for a decade and Polk had stopped leaving campus to recruit altogether.

quote:

To put things in perspective, in the history of the program, Vanderbilt baseball had been to three NCAA tournaments prior to Corbin's arrival.

You've also got the most attractive scholarship situation in the country for baseball. We don't even have lottery scholarships. While you are using 27+ full rides, MSU gives out 11.7

Once you decided you cared about winning at baseball and went out and hired a winner, that's all you will ever be now.
