This is funny as hell coming from an alabama fan. "You can't count that one bc..." knowing damn well their arse would count it without question. LSU boast bob petit, shaq, and Pete maravich as well. That's 3 of the best to ever play the game of basketball. We have a rich basketball tradition.

Oh we would?

The 1929–30 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team represented the University of Alabama in intercollegiate basketball during the 1929–30 season. The team finished the season with a 20–0 record and was retroactively named the national champion by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll.
The Helms national champion in 1929-30 was Pitt. The Helms national champion in 1934-35 was NYU.
We actually have a better claim in 1930 than LSU does in 1935, as we were claimed national champions retroactively by 1 of the 2 most recognized services. LSU won neither in 1935, NYU won both.
We do not claim it as a national championship and I did not recognize us with it in this exercise. Anything else?

Agree with you and my comments above definitely weren't intended as a slight.
Ultimately I think you could break the argument up into 2 areas:
Historical landscape/success and Current Landscape/success. Arkansas has had a a ton of historical success, but not reaching a sweet sixteen at minimum in over 20 years is a huge negative.

Are all these sports rankings posted here today an attempt to snuff out any pride OM fans have left?
What are they good at?
What are they good at?

you will get shite on putting us here but we (My note: LSU) actually have a great history and have 2 of the best players of all time.
Shaq
Pistol Pete
Bob Petit
Also, Moo State is Ranked #8
If you take out the single year of their Final Four appearance (1996), they drop all the way down to a tie with Auburn at #12.

So by historic standards UGA basketball is killing it lately....funny, it just doesn't feel that way.

Florida deserves to be ahead of Arkansas. Arkansas hasn't made a Sweet 16 appearance since the mid 90s.
This may be reflected if the value assigned to these various accomplishments were relative to the size of the tournament when accomplished. For instance, 5 points are given to making an Elite 8, but up until 1950 there were only 8 teams in the whole tournament. An Elite 8 is a bigger deal today because the tournament field is so large.

That is a fair argument and I would agree with Arkansas being 2nd or 3rd.
Using that same argument, you can't ignore Florida was not a very good program at all prior to Kruger taking them to one Final Four and then Billy D getting them a couple national titles.
Arkansas over the course of its programs history, has been much more consistent. Much like football rankings, basketball didn't start in 2000 when the Gators got hot under Billy D. Arkansas ranks in the top 16 or so nationally in all time win pct. as a program and ranks in the top 7 or so in all time Final Four appearances. There is also a select few of programs who have won 40 or more NCAAt games that Arkansas is a part of as well.
If this were a ranking since 2000, then yea, Florida would be ahead. But all time, a great argument can be made for Arkansas. A program who has 4 head coaches that have excellent winning percentages, not just one.
Ahhh...Norm Sloan was the HC at UF before he went to NC State and had more success with the NCAA police in hot chase...so we have had some success before Lon Kruger, but I agree he helped put us on the map with the Final Four...before he was hired we suffered through a coach who was not well liked by the players and the results proved it. Of Billy Donovan changed everything coming to UF and Foley hit the jackpot. Back to back national titles was awesome and even then we still had AA juniors who left because they knew there was a payday...they could have left the year before but they made a pact to stay and win another title...which is refreshing.

My initial bump is this thread already lost all relevance.

SEC Tournament Title (or other league post-1933) = 2 points
This hurts Kentucky the most but also the charter SEC schools as Arkansas, South Carolina, Missouri, and Texas A&M had about 30 years to pad numbers.
Since the NCAA has been around so much longer than CFP, this might be a better metric
NCAA Tournament Appearance = 1 point
NCAA post expansion first round win = 2 points
OR
NCAA pre expansion first round win = 4 points
Final 16 = 4 points
Final 8 = 8 points
Runner Up pre expansion = 12 points
OR
Final Four post expansion = 12 points
Runner Up post expansion = 16 points
NCAA champion = 24 points
Vacated wins counted at -50% penalty
