I loved that year. That was the game where a Miss St. fan had gotten DeMarcus' cell phone number and then a bunch of Miss St. called it continuously to harass him the week or so before the game. Then, at the game, every time he scored he would look right at the Miss St. student section and cup his hand over his ear like he was talking on the phone.

o dome at UF is a bottom 3 arena IMO. I'm sure the renovations will change that, but they have the shittiest concourses in the league

Until you see threads like this it's easy to forget how small or outdated some college arenas are. It's almost like some schools don't like basketball. You don't see football facilities neglected like that.

Hard to believe we are starting our 11th season at Mizzou Arena. It's been a pretty good home for our hoops team, we are 155-24 or .866 at home since the arena opened and that includes one of the worst stretches in Mizzou basketball with the last two years of quin snyder and the first two years of Mike Anderson. Take out those first four years and we are 102-7 or .936.

The AD did a great job when they built the Arena. Not just the seating area but the other areas and things they included as well.

Mizzou Arena is home to a private Athletic Performance Center, designed specifically to train basketball athletes. This area has strength training and cardio equipment, designed specifically by the strength staff to maximize student-athletes' abilities on and off the court.

Across the hall, the Mizzou Athletic Training room comes complete with aqua therapy and hydro pools, as well as treatment tables and offices for the Mizzou Sports Medicine Team.

Nutritional needs can also be met at Mizzou Arena. While teams have the ability to cater in meals before/following games and practices, both locker rooms have nutrition stations to meet the needs of our student-athletes.

A full-length practice gym, which is open to Tiger student-athletes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

With the first few rows pushed back. They do this for practice or in this case painting the court.

Concourse behind the student section.

The Practice court - available to the team 24/7.

The current locker room - scheduled to be completely redesigned and updated this year or next.

Kids visiting another part of the current locker room

The new video board being installed. Big upgrade.

Tad Pad was a PoS back when I went there in the '60's & '70's; saw Pistol Pete, though.

It hasn't gotten better with age.

I've been to about eight basketball arenas, but only two in the SEC: Auburn and Arkansas. They are both pretty nice (but very different).

Auburn's is tiny but everything is really nice and first class. If Auburn ever gets decent (crossing fingers and looking at you Bruce Pearl) I think this would be a fantastic place to see a game. As is, it is middle of the pack.

Arkansas has a huge arena for college basketball. When I went the crowd was hopping and it was a lot of fun. Probably the best atmosphere I have been to college or NBA.

I hope to make it to LSU this year.

That's really nice!

SC's Colonial Life Arena is pretty nice. Built in 2001 but still seems very new. It's a little big for SC though, seats 18,000+ but it's used for literally EVERYTHING that comes through Columbia (circus, major concerts, commencement etc.)... No idea why administration approved a facility so big, I think something in the area of 12,000-15,000 would've been more appropriate.

We actually have two arenas on campus.. Our old arena is now used as a practice facility until we build a new practice facility. Then it's going to be renovated into a big arse new student union.

Arkansas's is my favorite, but I prefer their old one. But I like older arenas better anyway.

You and me both. The atmosphere in Barnhill was far better imo, but then I also like older arenas better. They just have more character.

quote:

I understand they want a lot of side line seats, but it always seems odd to see the arena set up perpendicular to the main body of the structure. Butler does that too.

I think it adds character and like it.

lil small which could be a problem later,,but hard to top it.

I like the facade.

I haven't gotten the sense that UK particularly wanted an on-campus arena.

Which is a terrible idea for a venue of any real size.

quote:

I'd love something where the old Stoll field was though.

Memorial only seats around 9,000 and it is a traffic and parking nightmare for WBB. Putting a venue bigger than Rupp in that area would be a nightmare.

quote:

I think they have both an inability to fund it and a dearth of real estate on which to place it.

Smokescreens. The #1 issue going back to the "Pitino Arena" is that a new on campus venue would only seat around 18,000 when the current venue seats about 24,000. If you think the recent "downsize" of CWS has caused issues just imagine the sh*tstorm of shrinking Rupp! The only reason for the Rupp debate is UK see's all the corporate money for suites that YUM got but UK does not have the same corporate residents in Lexington to equal what Louisville has with the large corporations in their city.
