1) Razorbacks
This is by far the best mascot. It is neither over-played nor an abstraction. It is only known to be associate with our school and state. We also have a great live animal that would literally destroy others' dogs, cats, and chickens.
Mike would frick that little bitch up. And congrats on yet another moral victory Arky.

You said the name Commodore had no obvious connection with the school. Are you really this stupid or are you trollin' because I really can't tell at this point.

Look here dipshit, I said it has no obvious connection to the school. Then the next sentence says the mascot was named after the founder. See the difference? Your average person has no idea who Vanderbilt was, much less that he was a commodore. I ranked him where I did because they are names after him. frickbag.

Lsu is actually the Fighting Tigers named after a Louisiana infantry unit in the civil war. There pants had strips. So they were nicknamed fighting tigers

He wasn't a commodore. His nickname was "Commodore." Your intelligence is showing again.

Old joke is old.

Most people that hunt and/or fish see them fairly frequently. They're a nuisance but mean arse hell.

This, and also why should mascots be dumbed down to the average person? The average person is generally stupid. These are college mascots, intended to represent institutions of higher learning. Having a history behind them that isn't directly obvious and may require a little research is not a bad thing.
