Well, all I know is if we run the jumbo package version of basketball offense I might just have to throw up.

Oh wait, that is what we've been doing for the last 6 years.

Kentucky tried that this year with all those 7 footers they had and a pair of 6'6" guards.

Another good one. Man, he was a disaster in the NBA. Of course, he got stuck with 2 franchise either in their infancy or during a miserable stretch of their runs.

How is Hoiberg an example? He played in the NBA better never coached a day professionally. Before he was hired by Iowa State he had been in the Timberwolves front office for a couple years. Only reason he got the Iowa State job is because he played there.

He had never coached a day in his life in college. His only experience was in the NBA (though, like you said, the front office).

Like I said, not many examples, that is about as close as you will find in the last 5-10 years.

Did Ray Perkins ever coach college ball before coming to Bama?

Can you think of an NBA (or NFL) coach who spent their entire career at the pro level to take a head coaching job at the college level?

Not many.

Brad Stevens didn't obviously, but he was working at Eli Lilly when he quit to take an assistant job at Butler. Went straight to being their HC and then on to the Boston Celtics without ever having had another HC job on any other level.

That's because Brad Stevens is a boss.

We'll be sure to treat him well when Cal leaves.

In all seriousness, as I've said in other threads, it'll be interesting to see the transition Johnson makes from one level to the next. I'm curious as to who he puts on his staff.

Yes, there are tons of examples of schools striking out on their first few choices and then hiring somebody from left field. Some worked out and some didn't.

Don't you have a class to attend...or have you already flunked out?

I am in class. Our professors this semester give us notes and powerpoints and then just read them. Going to class is a waste of time, but we are required to be here. BTW I currently have a solid B average thank you very much.

I equate the AJ hiring to AU looking at Chuck Person as their Head Coach. Both were great players and good assitant Coach at the NBA level, but neither had any College experience. That is why Chuck is now on Pearls staff.
