ill just take it as a yes, since you wont just say a simple no and back up your dead coach. mfer is 6 feet under and you cant even stand up for him and say no.

I don't need to stand up for him. His record does that just fine. Or a lack of a tarnished record, I should say. Unlike your diefied coach.

I will share one story with you Bama fans:

Because of my profession, I interact with many athletes and coaches. We had one guy tell us about his recruiting. Highly recruited kid out of high school. He said he was offered a D1 scholarship to every SEC school. Every school (even Vandy) offered his some sort of "extra" benefit (including Auburn unforunately) except one. Alabama coach Bill Curry wouldn't. There you go, Albert Means would have never happened if you had kept Bill Curry.

Unless you were a part of the Alabama Football Program during Bryant's tenure, or a personal friend of his, it's all speculation. Coach Bryant did a lot for Alabama as a state, and for Football. Give the man his due.

My question to the Bama posters: Do you believe Bear Bryant (or associated Bama boosters) cheated during his great run in the 60s and 70s? Not trying to pick a fight, just wondering where most Bama poster sit on this issue.

I think it is pretty well known that he paid players almost everywhere he coached. In the 70's at BAMA I think a lot of kids just wanted to play for him as he got older.

By today's rules, he probably did as far as recruiting goes. But all of it was legal then, so that's a no.

As far as money goes, I've read his biography and he said he didn't pay players at Bama. He said that stuff went on at A&M while he was there, but said you could tell who got paid and who didn't by their work ethic. The paid players felt like they deserved to be on the team rather than earning it. So, no there too.

Alabama was a clean program until 1995.

So no, Bear never cheated.

Many things Bear did back then wasn't cheating but would be in today's game.

Why do I get the feeling this thread was started with a Pre-Determined answer in mind?

I played for Coach Bryant. If he did cheat, I never was aware of it. He did however go face to face with an NCAA investigator in his office once that I know specifically about. End result, he did break a minor rule by giving a kid a ride across campus in the rain. He shredded the investigator and explained to him that he had promised the boy's momma he would take care of him and that is what he did. Then told the investigator to get the hell out of his office which he did and the investigation ended as he walked out.

I never saw any of the "top" players with "questionable" cars, to the contrary, the QB drove a piece of crap. That is not to say that there were not some perks that showed up at times from booster like the $100 hand shakes but I never knew Coach Bryant to cross that line.

Yes, I know that is only my experience but it is all I have to base my answer upon.
