I didn't. Arkansas was the only team not located in the state of Texas. Plus, few people get excited about playing the likes of Baylor, TCU, SMU, Texas Tech and Houston.

TAMU seems to have made a smooth transition, probably should have been here years ago.
Our Head Coach at the time really wanted to come to the SEC. However our Bitch Richards needed to get her Alma Mater into an AQ conference. Hence the dumbest package deal in history to ruin the BIG 8.

Did you like the Southwest Conference or not?
Most SEC fans cannot relate to the old SWC. Just about every team was within a 2 to 8 hour drive from each other.
Perhaps Auburn/Bama fans and maybe Miss St and Ole Miss fans can relate to the old SWC the most... because these guys work with each other. I'm sure in an office situation in Mobile there are Bama fans and Auburn fans walking the same halls, taling over coffee, etc...
Imagine in Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, etc.. working at a place with lots of UT, A&M, SMU, Arkansas, TCU etc.. fans. You see and interact with these people every single day, sometimes all day.
This is why as Ags we see the comments about us "moving on" from Texas as so comical. On a daily basis we work with, we all call on customers that support both schools, live next door to, attend Rockets/ Texans/ Astros games with, kids play together, people call in on sports radio, newspapers are split, local TV covers both, etc.. etc.. etc.. it is impossible simply "move on" and to suggest otherwise is asinine.
Most people in the SEC have idea how intertwined our fan bases are. I don't mean just A&M and Texas, I also mean other schools still in Big 12 as well. LSU & Arkansas fans in Houston, Dallas, and SE Texas understand it the best.
You think you have a rivalry? Try living next door and working with those rivalries every day of your life. LSU and Bama fans don't do this so you will never truly understand.
This is why the old SWC was pretty unique and I do miss that.

Barely remember it.
I didn't know anything different when we were in it. It was a different culture, as everything revolved around cowboy/western stuff. This is the 10 year old me remembering it. Our William Tell and pretty much all of our cheers/tradition reflect that heritage. the ride
Nostalgia is always fun.

These Aggies are spot on with their assessment of the SWC.

Oh yeah, I remember that well.
I was also at the last game in Kyle the last season of the SWC. Your students were drunk, brutal, and scary. Lots and lots of anger, towards us, the mascot, the cheerleaders, etc. I remember looking up seeing ice raining down from the second deck. I remember a particularly drunk and angry group who gave the razorback mascot hell ALL night, cursing, etc. I was an impressionable kid, though. It was an ugly divorce.

really? Because I was a student then. The conference at that point was frayed beyond repair and I think we all knew it was doomed. I don't remember any vitriol from anyone towards y'all though.
Obviously I can't say how you were treated but my own experience was that no Ags really blamed Arky at all. We all wanted to go to the SEC then too

Also, if you listen at the 1:58 mark, when they say "the SEC", the large Arkansas contingent cheers loudly.
And again at 2:35, when they say we joined the "evil forces", the Arkansas section cheers loudly again.
F-Texas.

I was a kid. I remember it being really angry and drunk crowd. Aggies in Dallas have always been nice.
I also went to the TTech game that year. Tech was a day game, and I don't remember any real anger from them.

Was a different time, was a pretty good conference for the era. Everything happening in NWA with all the growth, the move to the SEC, the infrastructure improvements. We no longer had to be tied to dirty stinking Texas.
Compared to the SEC, the conferences are similar in a lot of ways. SEC is better at disguising it's biases and giving the schools relatively equal footing. I'd say most old time Arky fans would say No it was not particularly enjoyable but it was the only thing we knew.

There was some deep, hot visceral hate between Arkansas and Texas. Hell, in 2003 or whenever they were last in Fayetteville, the hate was still really, really strong.
Texas fans won't admit it, though.

it was a night game, we all knew it was the last game in the series, and it was raining. I'm sure there were many that had been drinking all day but I don't remember it being anything special really.
I do remember the damn wishbone you ran and it being low scoring (13-3?). It was cool to win it bc the Arky game had become huge in recent years as it was for the SWC several years in a row (89 hurt). But honestly I don't remember you leaving as a reason for any angst at all.

tFLAGSHIP always knew we were already starting games down a few points. We were going to see a "few" questionable calls. The rest of the conference always rooted for the other Texas teams.
So the wins were some much sweeter.
There really was a bias, so when the opportunity came Frank said "frank u tejas we out of here".

I don't remember feeling much differently about aTm back then.
East Texas was always bigger Aggie fans than straighthorn's. Living on the border, we more frequently interacted with them. The rivalry was pretty heated back then.

Every time questions like this come up, I'm reminded that I'm glad we got our conference move out of the way 21 years ago.
We already have a generation of fans who don't remember, and the rest don't care about the previous set up.
It does suck a little to see what we know (now) upset with additions, but at least we don't have to deal with a move. Also, knowing what its like to have history from a different league makes the ongoing shake up a little easier to deal with.
