Our history post 2009 matters more to me than titles from the pre 70's. Our history is there, but there's no need to argue about it when living in a time where your team is kicking everyone else's arse.

ETA: I'm gumpin' hard, and I'm well aware.

think Saban cares more about the Iron Bowl then you give him credit for. After the 28-27 loss in 2010, posters were put up in the locker room showing the picture of the halftime score and a picture of the final score with the message "Never Again" printed over it. Since then, Alabama has not allowed Auburn to score an offensive touchdown

Well at Bama you must beat Auburn most of the time.....if you can't your career at Bama won't last long....ask Bill Curry....that fricker beat Joe Paterno in his prime three times in a row but could never beat Pat Dye.......and the same is true at AU....so of course he cares about it and the 2010 Iron Bowl was a huge kick in the nuts.....hell, it was the worst IB loss/upset since "Punt Bama Punt" and drove a certain fan over the edge......but the last two years AU has been shite and its not looking much better this year for the Barners.....so its important obviously but there are games that are looming much larger next year (Aggie, LSU).....but the IB will always be huge...he has to care becuase no matter the records of the respective schools its important to the fan base..... beating AU will alwys be big becuase there is no way you can consider the season a complete success if Bama loses.....

Meh, not much to argue. Bama was the best SEC program overall pre-1980 and is once again on top. I wouldn't ever say differently.

How would you feel if Nick Saban talked about the Iron Bowl every week of the year as if it were the only game that mattered?

What if he installed an Iron Bowl countdown clock in the locker room?

Just curious.

The only clock he should have is the one to the next game. We can fixate on the Auburn game if we want to, but he doesn't have that luxury. I just hope he never gets so lame as to start holding up fingers to brag about how many in a row he's won.

I'm a younger 'Bama fan who grew up in years of misery. I probably love the sport more than I should, but I won't apologize for enjoying this ride too much. You have to appreciate the success before it's gone. It doesn't last forever.

I think the reason you dislike Alabama fans is that many of them look down on Auburn fans simply because they're Auburn fans.

That is why AU fans should really just STFU. They were insufferable suring the Dubose/Shula years when they reeled off 6 in a row......

He referenced dominating them 365 days a year when he was hired.I take that to mean competing against them in recruiting.I think he's done a pretty good job of this.
Exactly! He's done a damn good job of it, IMO.

But Bama isn't the only SEC program that has dominated them. AU is 4-16 vs UGA/Arky/LSU/Bama in the last 5 years and they have gone through 3 coaches in that same time period.

AU football has been the epitome of inconsistancy and instability since Saban's return to the SEC.

It's fun to be on top. But unless you suffered through the agony of the Dubose years, you can't really appreciate how great this is.

I myself didn't get it when I was growing up in Coach Bryant's heyday. I felt entitled (still remember the shock and disbelief of finding out we lost to Mississippi State in 1980). Those lean years are what makes the great years fun.

Not including Bama fans I would like to know who the ranters on here feel like deserved the 1966 title. No hate no shite talking just serious answers.

Exactly. I've never heard anyone who criticized our titles say "but using the same criteria, we should award Bama the 1966 championship." There's not even an attempt to be consistent.

If you don't like the titles in years that we lost the bowl game, I don't know what to tell you. Do you discount Super Bowl winners who had losing records in the offseason?

Not a great analogy... I'd go with the NFL preseason comparison since bowl games didn't count during that era.

Only 1966? Don't forget about 1937, 1945 and 1977 either.

If it weren't for WWII, Bama would be sitting with 1 more NC right now. Voters back then weren't gonna give it to any school besides Army.

Frick you WWII

I would say he was possessed by Saban..... I mean Satan. Damn you Franklin.

Should we assume Malzhan has a bowl count down clock in his office?

Right on cue. As if you had ANYTHING TO DO WITH BAMA STOMPING LSU'S arse. No amount of Bama wins ,will make your trailer bigger. My own sports accomplishments and my own success in life is enough that I dont let , a game played by kids, determine MY sense of self worth.

Wrong. In the event of a 3 way divisional tie, the "winner" of the division is based on BCS ranking. So, in fact you can be "voted" into the SECCG.

But you have to win the games to even get in that position.it's also a set criteria. The bcs criteria shifts every year. One year it's who has you beaten , next it's who did you lose too and the next it's eyeball test. It's bullshite.

what exactly was it... what drive do you think got us back to national prominence?

dude... we're all a part of the wins and losses of a team. the level of emotion just in this post proves that. if fans didn't care, the sport wouldn't exist.

and the part in bold is a very interesting comment... i guess the part where you said you don't let any of it determine your sense of self worth means you just don't care if y'all win or lose?

I just wish that the person who made fun of Rich Rodriguez's wife, would've never been born.

Along with 1964 and 1973.
No. 1964 and 1973 are legit poll national championships.

Bama is not the only team to have won national championships and lost their bowl game.

1950 NC Oklahoma lost to Bear Bryant's Kentucky in the Sugar Bowl, but OU was awarded the AP & UPI title before the bowl and they count it.

1951 NC Tennessee lost to Maryland in the Sugar Bowl; but Tennessee was awarded the AP & UPI title before the bowl and they count it even though Maryland was undefeated.

1960 Minnesota lost a regular season game to Purdue and lost the Rose Bowl to Washington, going 8-2, but was awarded the AP & UPI NC before the bowl game and they count it. Even though Ole Miss went 10-0-1 and won their bowl game, they were awarded the FWAA title just like Arkansas.

The AP and the UPI use to award their titles before the bowls since there were only a few bowl games in those days, they were more exibition games.

Bama has legit claims to the AP and UPI titles they were awarded.
