Yall didnt mention the hawaiian dude either. I assume he's playing Nose? So its Chapman Gentry, and the somoan at NG?

He's not Hawaiian or Samoan, he's Aboriginal Australian.

And Jesse Williams is playing DE right now, which he was listed at in Trey's post...

It takes a step back with the loss of Dareus, but it's still a very strong line with Square, Chapman, and Stinson/Dial.

It's not gonna be flashy, 3 man fronts rarely are, but they'll cover their gaps and free up lanes for the LBs...

as others have said IMO it is predicated on how they think the defense will perform. Yes Dareus was a loss but if you look at the defense overall it should be better (especially the breakdowns in the secondary. The questions about DL are valid. Chapman looked good in the spring game. I expect Square to hit his stride this year. He was showing good things in '09 before the knee. Gentry has shown some promise on the DL. Another player to watch is Brandon Ivory. Having said that the actual interior line in Saban's defense doesn't "have" to be world beaters. Will Bama live up to the hype for 2011? We shall see.

Saban is usually a poor mouther but he has spoken very positively about this team having more depth than any team he has had. He also said there are a few guys in the DL rotation that had the potential to become dominant players. Lamicheal Fanning and Quinton Dial are getting a lot of praise among the new guys.

How can a team who lost 4 first round picks (including a heisman trophy winner), and a two year starting QB, from a team that lost 3 games be one of the heavy favorites to win the BCS. Are they that deep across the board that they can just fill in these huge losses and not just miss a beat but be better than last year? No trying to flame but is a legitimate question.

How about the fact that the two year starting QB sucked, the Heisman trophy winner is being replaced by an even more talented RB who will get more carries, two of the first round picks was slowed by injury issues and the third player got drafted way higher than he should have been? Couple that with the fact that nine defensive starters are returning instead of needing to be replaced and there's no reason why Alabama's "losses" isn't as big of a factor as people think they are. Also, doesn't LSU have to replace Patrick Peterson, Drake Nevis and Kelvin Sheppard? Hell, those three players meant a lot more to LSU than Ingram, Jones and Dareus for Alabama.

Marc Guillon
Tyler Watts
Andrew Zow
John David Phillips
Freddie Kitchens
Brian Burgdorf
Jay Barker

Bama's defense maybe a little better in the secondary but their offense is going to take a step back. They are not going to be able to win games on offense. TR will have to carry the offense and if he gets hurt then they will be screwed. GM is going to hurt more than people think.

They were the favorites last year, too. If they lose three again, the Saban worship will officially be over. Big season for Nick.

If you look at the last 2 NC's Alabama has one
And Auburn has the other, but I don't see how this is relevant to the subject!
Maybe if Alabama had won one more game in Tuscaloosa in '10, they might have won one more NC.

That's because of ESPN and their huge boner for offense. Our offense isn't built to be as explosive as Florida's, Arkansas's, or Auburn's. Our offense is about balance and ball control. That formula wins championships if you have the defense to back it up.

Last year, Alabama didn't have the defense. We lost 8 starters to graduation/the NFL and lost another to a season-long suspension. To pick up their slack, we had guys who were talented, but very inexperienced. While it ended up being the best defense in the SEC as well as the fifth best defense in the country (statistically speaking), stats only go so far to tell a story. Our youth on defense cost us the LSU game as well as the South Carolina game. Too many mistakes were made in those two games in crucial situations. They could never get off the field on third down.

That's what those ESPN analysts and a lot of kool-aid drinkers were missing when they had us preseason ranked #1 last year. Saban wasn't even buying into the hype as he didn't even vote us #1 when it came time for the 2010 preseason Coaches Poll. I didn't buy into the hype either. I had predicted a 9-3 regular season and I was right on the money. Check my post history if you don't believe me.

Bottom line, our offense doesn't have to be a juggernaut in order to win a national championship. They just have to control the football. The defense will do the rest and this year's defense has the talent to do just that.

Yes, they're deep. That's what happens when you over sign year after year and have a top 5 class year after year. Saban knows WTF he's doing.

I think the only soft spot will be at receiver, however, I think some of the lesser known guys will step up big time and surprise people.

I think the offense will be enough to score in critical games.

Bama returns:

19 Starters
51 Lettermen

7 Starters and 23 Lettermen on offense
9 Starters and 24 Lettermen on defense
3 Starters on Special Teams

You really breaking down special teams starters lulz

Greg Mcelroy will be your biggest loss imo
That guy was rock solid for most of his career. Losing you LT,HB,WR,QB, pretty much all your playmakers outside of Marquis Maze. I just don't see how some people think you will be better than last year. The defense wasn't exactly bad last year.

You ran into a buzz saw at USc
LSU just beat you str8 up
Auburn was the better team

Actually, we replaced 9 starters last year and are returning 10 starters this year.
