I agree with all that. They should give out a full allotment of scholarships to baseball first. To allow more kids the opportunity of an education(paid for), while getting the opportunity to showcase his talents to 30 MLB clubs.

It's a different bowl of soup, and here's why I don't really agree..

ML Baseball competes directly with colleges by recruiting and giving contracts to kids right out of H.S. Because of that the college baseball quality overall is lesser and has less impact on "delivering" quality players to the next level(pro's). For what you are saying what would be needed is for MLB to essentially cancel about half of it's instructional league clubs and stop recruiting H.S. kids with an agreement like the NFL currently uses.

The reason I think this MIGHT happen is two fold, first it would save MLB franchises many many millions by not operating at least a couple of levels of 1A-2A minors clubs. Second it would turn the MLB college draft into the kind of spectacle that the NFL draft is and vastly increase the interest in baseball at the college level.

Kind of a win-win for MLB and college sports that I think the suits will eventually figure out.

The 65 power conference teams are the only teams we really need anyway.

The other 60'ish DI-A teams are almost all just filler.

They should play in their own division ALA DI-AA, DII, DIII, etc.

120+ teams in one division is just stupid.

Well I think this system will immediately address some of the issues w/ having approx 6500 players in one division.

At this point you either got a Power 5 Scholarship offer or you got a second tier offer, because there will be a clear difference from now on. Much like getting an SEC offer will become the gold standard in offers among the Power 5, once the full impact of the network money is realized among the SEC programs.

These kids are getting not just $100,000 educations, but the best professional coaching and training available and the best medical care if they need it all which is worth untold 10's or 100's of thousands of dollars on top of all the tuition and other benefits. They get personalize training schedules customized for them by a professional staff and overseen by some of the best trainers in sports. Instruction on how to become better at their positions by the best coaches in football. How much do you think an hour of Nick Sabans time is worth? They get to work out in the best facilities that are as good or better than what the pro's have and play in billion dollar stadiums. All while being given the chance to prove they might actually be good enough to play at the next level, which most aren't and will never get to be pro's. For four+ years they get to live the dream of being "like the pros" only as kids are still being given the oppurtunity to learn much about life, a goal which many clearly are struggling with.

People claiming they are somehow being "ripped off" are among the dimmest bulbs on the planet.

Your blanket statement fails to recognize the exploitation that is occurring. Most players are funneled into joke majors where outside of coaching football they have zero career choices. This is the case far more times than not. Spare me the comments about making the most of opportunities. The men in trusted to care for these boys are the ones pushing them into those types of classes and majors.

The reason they are being ripped off is simple. All of what you mentioned plus $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee if the system doesn't help you benefit from the $100,000 education you have been given. LeBron James on the other hand finished his 4 year age time frame of college life with millions of dollars. What would you rather have the Professional like glory or the money?

You're right, I don't recognize something that doesn't exist, in my statement. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hopefully, this brings us one step closer to paying players. It's time for these

Universities to stop stealing from their athletes.

Yep and once they're paid the freebies stop. They can foot the bill for their own education, room and board.

The NCAA is its members. If the Power 5 wanted to break off they could and the NCAA could do nothing about it. The only incentive to stay in the NCAA is that the structure is already there (and of course the REC runs it)

Not sure it's so much about the organizational aspects that already exist with the NCAA as it is about the political correctness aspects and the fact that totally breaking-away would open them up for criticism from Congress and academia.

Big 5 university presidents did not want to open that can of worms.

Why do Loons like Jed want to make this a pro sport. I'm totally against everything this stands for.
Get rid of title 9 and a lot of ills are fixed. The amount of scholarships baseball has is criminal.

Dumb

Yes. Beyond dumb.

I liked June Jones' trial balloon of the non-Big 5 conferences playing spring football.

In essence saying, "frick me??? No, frick you!! If your so goddamn high and mighty, fill out your schedules elsewhere. Try to rake in the money of March Madness without us.

I hope the little guys stick together and dare them to go it alone.
