Florida, even given the recent down period, is the 2nd best team in the SEC since the championship game was introduced.

There isn't really an argument to be made about who is #1 and who is #2.

The real debate: who is the third best team in the SEC championship game era?

This one sentence makes the rest of your thread look rather ridiculous.

Easily LSU

If UF wins another in the next 3 years and Bama does not will you think your program is not as great

I have a feeling that UF feels like they cannot compete with Bama
Unlike say LSU

I would say since 1992, yes you could say Florida is 2nd behind Alabama.
But LSU has almost as good an argument.

LSU is maybe the only school in the country that has had a winning season and gone to a bowl game in NINETEEN OF THE LAST TWENTY-ONE YEARS, (winning 12) since 1995, including 16 years IN A ROW.

Who else has come close to that? Oklahoma, Ohio State and Boise State.

In addition to the above, since the beginning of the milennium, LSU has had 4 SEC Titles (in 5 SECCG apps.), 2 National Titles (in 3 NC apps), and nine 10-win or better seasons.

Miles is also in the Top 3 winningest CFB coaches since 2005 - the year he arrived in BR.

You are bringing up Bama accomplishments over a small period since 1992

I assume you are talking about only the last 8 seasons when you say "small period". Bama won the SEC & Natty in 1992, they won the West in 92, 93, 94, 96, 99. Won the SEC in 99. Won 10+ games in 92, 94, 96, 99, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 (that's 14 of the 24 seasons since expansion).

the down years of DuBose (which included a 10 win SEC title season), Fran (which included a 10 win season), and Shula (which included a 10 win season) make it look questionable, but there is waaaaaay more success since expansion than failure.

A 0-8 SEC record in 2012 ends all AU arguments

Cool, ignore away. It's probably a better topic than 1/2 on the SECRant right now.

This right here...I completely agree with.

I suppose defending AL pride is about the best activity on the SECR right now.

Bring on football.

But going to the ship the next year strengthens it. They went from cellar to SEC Champs in one year

I'm sure Florida has the better overall record and SEC record since 1992.

More importantly average finish in the polls

Not sure, but I bet if you average them all up, they would actually be pretty close.

Alabama has been unranked in the AP poll 7 times since 1992 and Florida has been unranked 5 times.

1st place - Alabama (5), Florida (3)
Top 5 - Alabama (7), Florida (8)
Top 10 - Alabama (12), Florida (13)

Pretty even with the most important stat (#1 finishes) going to Alabama.

When you ask if there has been a "changing of the guard" in terms of the SEC's top team being Florida instead of Alabama, I think the answer is pretty clearly no. Florida has a had a great run since 1992, but the problem is Alabama has too albeit front loaded and backloaded with a bad spot in the middle.

Also the last 7 years has been dominated by Alabama so to ask if there has been a changing of the guard of top SEC team from Alabama to someone else just seems like a strange question at this time since Alabama has been the top dog again for quite a few years.

Florida was as bad under Muschamp as Bama was between 1997 and 2006.

By the same token,

Since 1992, LSU has been:

Unranked - 7 times
Ranked - 16 times
Ranked Top 5 - 5 times
Ranked Top 10 - 8 times
Ranked #1 - 2 times

what does this statement mean? UF feels like they can compete with Bama, but LSU doesn't feel like they can?

What the heck, I'll play with the troll.

There's a 5.5 game difference between the two.

Since expansion:

UF 230-78-1
Alabama 224-83-1

You picked a time period that includes the worst decade in Alabama football since the 1950s and UF's overall record is virtually even with fewer national titles.

Congrats?

LSU's run has been very impressive. The clear #3 since 1992. Consistently very good for vast majority of that time frame with the 3rd most NCs and 3rd most SECCs.

East maybe but not overall, Bama's last 5 years give them the title.

If you consider all sports, then yes, UF is the SEC's dominant school. By far. Not even credible to dispute that. But, not if you consider football only.
