I can for sure see where you are coming from, but disagree just a little bit. I personally witnessed him on many occasion extend plays with his legs in the pocket, and read defenses. Obviously he was no brain surgeon, but your basic coverage schemes in college he could read and adjust. You are exactly right about the arm, when you are that gifted and can literally make any throw, it can actually hurt ones game and it did for him in the NFL.
What made JR the talent he was, was not just the natural arm strength/talent, but for a guy his size he was actually pretty athletic and could move in the pocket, while also being extremely tough and a natural leader. If there is any doubt, look at the throw against ASU after Katrina to Doucet, there are only so many people that will ever be able to make that throw, but its the way he just flicked it, its effortless.
Sorry for the story probably sounds like JR is some kind of hero
, just reminiscing old times. (Pete Maravich is my athletic hero btw
