You do realize we've actually won/been listed as #1 party school in the nation more than once by national magazines?

Which ones? What years?

Im assuming it got its name because it, you know, a strip of bars. We have one in Tuscaloosa too

In 1974 Walter Cronkite designated Knoxville as the "Streaking Capital of the World." It was in the spring of that year that an estimated 5,000 people on Cumberland Avenue took their clothes off... stripping on the "strip".

Not only that a few businesses offered free drinks, food, etc. to any female students who streaked. There were also, ahem, makeout sessions and public sex acts between students. It was wild as hell but hardly the only time UT has been wild.

Debauchery on a grand scale is how the Strip got its name.

That is why it is called the strip, I find it hilarious that you think you know more about a town you've never been to than people who live/lived there.

Come on man, you're better than this.

I find it hilarious you think that is why it is called that. Do you think it is just a coincidence that several other college towns also have a bar district just like the one in Knoxville that is, wait for it, also called the strip?

Oh yes it is. Before then it was just Cumberland Avenue. A lot of visitors and transplants refer to it by its proper name of Cumberland Ave. There's no advertising that this is called the strip - it's just known to those of us affiliated and/or familiar with UT and Knoxville.

You won't find it on any map or advert like in your links.

See my post above. You're simply wrong on this one. We all miss from time to time and you're way off the mark on this one. This has actually been well documented. It's not just lore.

Any of the other college towns you listed have 5000+ streakers run through their bar district?

I think he's just being argumentative. This isn't some local lore and isn't advertised as 'the strip' the way other places are. Cumberland hasn't even been a bar district for its entire time.

I said it before but this is all documented because what happened made national news.

How can anything be wrong with the science of this list? Everyone knows measuring the degree of partying is completely quantitative with no margin of error.

Dude I'm sorry that I told you there is no Santa Clause but that is not why it is called that. The Strip is not on maps of Tuscaloosa either. Yes the streaking happened but its called that, just like all the other college towns, because it is a strip of bars.

Not sure why you're still digging that hole of yours. Again, this is documented and not by college sources and homer sites but by media both national and local (when the nickname happened). You're basically arguing with well known facts and history. No one's arguing that having a place called the strip is particularly unique but the reason why Cumberland Ave is called that IS unique.

Playboy is just butthurt because none of our hot wimmens will slut it up for the magazine.

Aside from Ole Miss, way too many omissions from the conference. I've had a ball at Alabama, USC, Florida, LSU, Mizzou and UGA.
