Only thing surprising me is JK couldn't at least get 2nd team.. Guess he had more of a down year then I thought.

Just as I thought, he doesn't pass the minimum 3.6 per games.

He's the best blocker in America and he's 3rd in the SEC in receiving yards.

Engram doesn't block at all and from what I know Hayden Hurst is mostly a receiving tight end.

frick that. Daniel Carlson is the best kicker in America. Also I think Montravious Adams should have been 2nd team DT.

I've always wondered how PFF comes up with their rankings. What formula do they use? For instance, when Leonard Fournette ran for 284 yards on 16 carries against Ole Miss, he wasn't even the top rated guy in that game, he was like 4th or 5th. It made sense because he really ran through gaping holes and used his speed to take it to the house on three long runs. But how exactly do they quantify that into a number? Same for shutdown corners, OL, blocking tight ends, etc.

I don't care how good he is at blocking. Teams find TEs who can block. Alabama will probably never have a TE who can't block. There isn't much separation in average blocking TEs and elite blocking TEs. If you suck arse at blocking at TE, you probably aren't going to play(if your job asks you to block).

OJ is the man. And might be the best TE in the country. But usage has to come into play at some point.

That's just not true. At all.

And we haven't had an elite blocker at tight end since Michael Williams left, and that includes OJs first two years until he developed.

The whole reason we've been getting guys to the edge this year is OJ combining with Deiter and Stewart to annihilate LBs and create a wide land that gives Jalen and the backs steam.

And, again, he is 3rd amongst tight ends in receiving yards and receptions, behind Engram (who is basically a slot receiver) and slightly behind the kid from South Carolina. His usage is more than everyone but those two.

I'm implying if he was taking a steamy dump, you'd think it was the steamiest of all.

Yea, I've been pretty clearly not a homer about Alabama on this board for a while, just think that OJ gets shite on because of the unreal expectations for his catch totals while his solid receiving contributions and elite blocking basically get ignored.

In the country?

And who has been a liability or even below average at blocking at the position for Alabama since 2008? Besides OJ...and his improvement has been spectacular.

Ahh, I thought I was in the All SEC thread.

Yea, I wouldn't advocate for him as an AA. I mean, I don't know who is, but his pass catching numbers probably aren't good enough.

No, ya dork

My main point was just thinking there HAS to be SOMEONE out there more deserving. Although after he has 450 yards and 6 TDs in the playoff, hat might not be the case

But it's an important half. I'm not going to try to rank them -- I have neither the experience watching them all nor the know-how to grade a block statistically -- but I do respect an organization that really understands that half of a TE's job. Ninety percent of CFB fans are clueless with regards to great blocking. They just want to see numbers and yardage.
