Davis started at a traditional corner spot while Minkah played star. I'd guess Davis was on the field more than Minkah.

Regardless, both are solid players.

Take out the special teams stats and look purely at the DB numbers, Davis had the more productive year (with two fewer games played)

I'll take 3 less tackles for 3 more passes broken up and 2 TDs and 88 return yds over none. Thanks.

I'll agree with that.

I'll say I think each player fits their given team best.

If Minkah Fitzpatrick is Tyrann Mathieu, Carlton Davis is Richard Sherman. This is just a comparison, neither player is near either NFL player.

Who cares. One plays for Auburn. The other plays for Bama. Both are damn good. We'll never have to pick between the two.

Pretty sure I said Davis was damn good. I'm not the on who wanted to try to compare stats without special teams. Just responded to it. Still, Minkah is the man.

Well that was directed at both of you

You also made the initial comparison

That's nice and all, it looks good on paper.

However, wasn't one of these literally thrown right to him? Without a receiver even around? He was gift-wrapped a free interception.

ETA: The first one against Texas A&M was a great play, IMO. Jumped a route on an overthrow and read it beautifully.

Points is points. I'm sure Ole Miss isn't complaining how the ball bounced off a DB helmet for the winning score and difference in the Bama/OM game. Being in the right place in the right time is part of it.

You don't have a decent RB, TE or QB

Well, Auburn has Kerryon Johnson at running back, and he's better than "decent."

Admittedly, Auburn doesn't have a good quarterback on roster, and the top 3 in consideration suck. I've said this multiple times.

Auburn also doesn't use a tight end so I don't really care about that.

Technically fitz didn't play corner... Obviously he's better than those 3 combined. And has a ring to go with it. Lulz

Speaking of which, Auburn has the best in CFB.

Tally up another moral victory for my notebook.

Well that's because they're being ranked as CORNERBACKS, not as special teams players. Davis didn't do kick returns anyway. And one of Minkah's PR touchdowns was a blocked punt he took back like 10 yards with nobody around.

The two also played different positions. Fitzpatrick's position put him in better position to return INTs. One of his returns was super impressive, but the other he only had to beat one white guy and could've walked in the rest of the way. His position also had him pass rushing a good bit while I'm not sure if Davis had one called pass rush all season.

All 3 of Davis' interceptions were in the endzone. That's pretty damn impressive and clutch, and also explains 0 return yards.

Until Fitzpatrick is a starting corner it's hard to have a true comparison.
