Baton Rouge is a shithole but it isn't the worst city in Louisiana. Several others are in contention for that award.

Baton Rouge is a complete shithole and I lived there seven years and was born there. Complete shithole.

What? You don't like black people, Colonel Web?

There is more wealth BR than any city in Mississippi by a mile.

How many of them Billionaires you got?

Yes there is wealth in BR. You have a 15 million dollar house with a 40 year old mobile home on one side, and a meth house on the other.

$63,270 median household income for EBR. And $50,155 for the city.

Madison MS is $165,640

Do you know how medians work? Of course BR has lower medians, they have hundreds of thousands of poor black people. Now do Madison and Jackson combined, that's Baton Rouge.

ETA:

I have family in Madison.

I ate at Elvies, Koestler Prime, and Walkers just a few weeks ago.

Starkville has more class than Ole Miss by a long shot. The Ole Miss folks are doing their best to ruin Oxford.

Two different counties. Just Madison county is still higher than EBR, and that includes some pretty sketchy areas. I would say there are a lot of poor white thrash in baton rouge as well, don't assume that only a minority brings you down.

Walkers great, try Gibbs next time, little bit of a drive but a great experience.

Madison is nothing but white flight out of Jackson, which can't even sustain a potable water supply for its citizens.

For the most part...

BR reminds me more of Jackson than Madison. But no argument out of me about Jackson being awful.

Ole Miss, home of college footballs:

Largest fake tailgate. You know, that 1/2 square block known as the Grove, with its fake chandeliers, its fake champagne, its fake chicken tenderloins and its fake kazillionaire wannabees?

Did I mention that fake high school stadium as well?

BR is an absolute shite hole. It's embarrassingly awful.

BR has parts that are just like Jackson and parts that are just like Madison. It is just separated into two counties in Mississippi. Country Club of Louisiana and the wealth on Highland Road, as one example, are just as far from North Baton Rouge as Madison is from the slums of Jackson.

Combine those counties, then put Ole Miss (not Oxford) near downtown Jackson, that would be very comparable to Baton Rouge.

ETA:

For the record, I love visiting Madison and Oxford is my favorite college town in America.

I actually agree. Have many great friends from there and enjoy visiting from time to time. Pretty decent culture down there. I know it's light hearted ribbing, but Starkville is not bad. Now, the cheesiness of "Vegas" is another story. But hey, that's how they roll.

Nope.

My grandparents lived in BR, still visit a good bit. I am familiar with it. Worked there for about 2 years. Even a block off Highland was thrash.

Lived in a higher value area off of Hoo Shoo TOO, and also behind BCBS of LA, cars were constantly broken into, hardly any pride and ownership around us.

I get it you have to cut your grass like 3 times a week down there, but at least keep it below the knees.
