I disagree. If he's quitting to retire then that is acceptable. He's 70 years old. Most people retire before 70. What would not be acceptable is him quitting to take the USC job.

You know how the Saban saga from his days at LSU, to Miami to Alabama goes, I'll spare the rest of the board the details.

I was pointing out the hypocrisy in his post.

Saban changed jobs, I thought I mentioned that in my post

Correct. So you'd rather Spurrier have mailed it in the rest of the season, the same way Saban did for the Dolphins?

Maybe the AD called him in yesterday and asked him what he planed to do to fix the clusterfrick that was USCe football.
And when OBC said he didn't know what to do the AD told him to just GTFO now.

I only wish he would have finished the year, rallied the troops for his last home game at SC against Clemson and Dabo Weeny, and knocked them right out of contention for any national title hopes.

Well it fricks up SC recruiting thats for sure

Short term or long term?

What's worse, Quitting at the end of the season and having a bunch of recruits bail then, or getting someone named early and have that coach start building relationships with the 2016 guys?

He is simply being allowed to step down with dignity. That's all this is.

I think maybe somebody in the Administration pissed him off and Spurrier being Spurrier told them to go jump off a cliff.

Also, I wouldn't expect much different from Spurrier. He's not the type to announce it and have a half assed farewell tour to send him off. He doesn't want or need it. Lastly, yes he could keep it a secret, but with the long term well being of USC in mind it's better for him to leave now so they can get a jump start on the coaching search.

(Hope its Muschamp, unless Richt bails too then I hope UGA picks him up.)

To some, it's not very dignified to quit on a team mid-season when things appear to be in the crapper.

There's nothing wrong with announcing your retirement at this time, finish your job/complete the season and ride off into the sunset. While the Administration uses the next few months to put the wheels in motion in finding a new coach.

Strange that Stevo wouldn't finish the season.

I really hope it isn't health related.

That is what I think it could actually be. Either he or a family member may be ill. To quit mid season is a terrible way to end such a long career and makes him look like a quitter.

Dude maybe he's doing the best thing for the team. Maybe he can't hack anymore, ever think of that? The man is 70 years old.

You're jumping to conclusions with virtually no information. Do you do that often? Its not a good way to be.

Our Agent Muschamp will never come in out of the Cold while there are more teams out there that he can slyly frick up.

Im just of the opinion that if he started the year he should have finished it. I have always thought he was a fricking crybaby and this really makes he look like a POS in my eyes.

Posted the same thing last night....barring some illness or emergency, he owed it to his team to finish the season and not just quit. It may be his right to do so but its a bitch move....but hey, that's just Spurrier isn't it?

being fired at the end of the year.. I guess he figured leaving on his terms was the last decision he could make, and it's not like he's a great mentor who will guide his staff to being NC -HC's.

Unless health is a legit issue, he makes a good point. The press conference will give us the Info we need to judge spurrier for this move.
