I really don't hope they try to pull the "I was drunk and it was a huge mistake on my part" bullshite. They deserve to get kicked out and never get admitted to another major university.
A tenet of legality is that the punishment must match the crime.
Getting expelled and banned from major universities is rather harsh for, well, intolerant actions that will have no criminal and civil ramifications, IMO.

Not officially getting banned but do you think Alabama, LSU, Texas, Kentucky or any other major university will let these kids in after they find out what they were expelled for?

Not reading this thread, but did the perps damage the statue?
I get Ole Miss wanting to take a stand against this type of ignorance and distance their name from the actions of a couple of idiots, but ignorant people get to make stupid social and political statements just like everyone else.

Once again, what they did is not illegal, not tortuous, nor is it negligent. It will have no legal consequences, outside of potential expulsion from the University. Nowhere in this statement am I defending the perpetrators, just merely stating facts. Their actions were reprehensible.
I'm thinking that whichever University doesn't allow them in will be sued for discrimination themselves.
Seriously though, if they're 19-20 year old kids, why not let them back into higher education? They still have, roughly, 60 years to contribute to society.

I can see this going unsolved. I really doubt the clowns who orchestrated this would've told anyone.

Negative.
Their actions were neither criminal nor were they tortuous.

If they are students they will probably get caught. If they aren't...I doubt they will be.

I'm sure they could be pegged for vandalism.

Vandalism isn't criminal?

Researching the Mississippi vandalism statute now although I'm sure there's a federal statue or case law on point seeing as how it's Ole Miss is a public university and the statue itself is a monument.

Yeah. If I had to guess, it was a drunken stunt that apparently sounded like a hoot at the time. Probably woke up the next morning and knew they fricked up.I mean it could've been discussed between a group but who knows? I fricking hope they get caught

Vandalism isn't criminal?
Suppose someone would have placed flowers on the statue or hung a medal around its neck...would that be criminal?
