Well this could be something that someone ends up in federal prison over if this particular monument could be proven to have some sort of federal ties. I'm glad they are persuing this as hard as they are, it's time for this bullshite to stop. I'd like to see a motherfricker try to pull some shite like this after someone goes to prison.

ETA: the charge of sending someone to prison would almost certainly not be held up, but it would be enough to scare anyone else from attempting to pull shite like this again after they go to court and are dragged through the mud.

People like this are from another time. I don't know what they hope to accomplish with it.

I don't know why this thread is suddenly dissing on Memphis. Is it a racism thing?

Tennessee is called the three states of Tennessee for a reason. It wasn't that long ago when one of the governor's finally had the signs that said, "Welcome to the three states of Tennessee" ripped down and replaced because the East, Middle, West regionalism really is old nowadays. We've always had regional differences and we're the only state where East, West, Middle have legal weight as each grand division is legally entitled to things like regionally balanced judicial appointments and so on per the state constitution but most of the Memphis hate comes from the Boss Crump days when Crump managed to control the entire state using his base of power in Memphis.

But lately it seems the anti-Memphis thing is just code for those who hate "blacks" and/or "democrats." I hear a whole lot of old people bash Memphis but not many of other age ranges unless they're lily white ultra-conservatives of the John Birch Society/White Citizen's Council variety who're just masking they're dislike for black folks.

I've seen Tennessee fans several times offer to give memphis to mississippi. I'll gladly take it.

Depends on whether or not they're joking. Most of the people I know might make that as a joke (none as a serious statement) but some out there really do hate Memphis and they're only partially joking.

To give you a little more context... One of the reasons it's a running joke is that the upper tip of East, Tennessee is closer to Canada (not kidding) than it is to Memphis.

well this is not true. Most folk in Tennessee don't like Memphis because of the crime and the national publicity memphis receives from said crime.

But I agree with that most old folk probably don't like it ebcause of the black people.

I personally have had a blast on Beale St., actively root for the Grizzlies, and played AAU in Memphis for quite some time.

I just like to rustle Rebelgators jimmies from time to time.
