Rep. Trey Lamar, R-Senatobia, introduced the potential legislation (House Bill 1040), which would force under the threat of financial penalty for the NCAA "to complete its investigation, present findings to the NCAA Committee on Infractions and to render its final decision either imposing penalties for the violations proven in the investigation process or dismissal of the allegations" within nine months of a member institution's response to a letter of inquiry. Lamar earned an undergraduate degree in business with emphasis in real estate and management at Ole Miss where he played for the Rebels' football team.

would also require any appeal to the committee on infractions' final decision would conclude within six months of the committee's original ruling. Should the NCAA fail to meet these time frames, the bill proposes it would be fined $10,000 each day it goes past the window of time and said fine should be "payable to the member institution subject to the investigation and actionable through the Circuit Courts of the State of Mississippi." The bill states that its purpose is to ensure an "efficient" and "timely" procedure of due process, while also seeking to "limit any unnecessary harm" to the programs and its student-athletes. Not sure showing video of an Ole Miss player obviously taking a cheap shot is going to gain you any support.

No state law will make them change their ways. If it comes down to it they'll just tell all the schools in MS abide by our rules or leave the NCAA.

Membership is voluntary, and it will take a federal law to make the NCAA change their ways.

They call themselves Rebals for a reason. That being said, with all the issues we have in MS, I wish the Representative from Senatobia would focus on more important issues like affordable dental care for all Mississippians.

In Alabama, apparently they have a law that says that when a school commits a string of egregious violations, the school can do a one-day internal investigation and just send an unmarked letter and "hand deliver" it to the NCAA and everything is copacetic.

They should check into that.

So all an institution under investigation has to do is drag its heels past 9 mths & they walk. And as noted, the NCAA is a voluntary organization & all members willing agree to follow its bylaws.

In all honesty, Speaker Gunn should sanction him for introducing such bullshite and wasting the time of legislative staff in view of real problems facing the state.

That said, this certainly speaks to the angst and desperation of the OM fan base. Sadly for them, this may only be the beginning of sorrows.

What happens if the NCAA obliges this fine Representative with show causes for all staff associated with the cheating, including Freeze, around the time fall practice starts?

What if they hit Bjork with one too at that time?

They gonna hire someone to replace them all in August? How?

Not that this would ever happen, but obviously the best course of action is fining the NCAA for not making their decision quickly enough. Makes perfect sense

Do we really want to have the "Egg Bowl wins" argument? Y'all kicked the shite out of us this year for sure. But in all honesty, I can probably put a team of 11 from tRant and score 55 on our defense from this past year.
