Don't know much about them, but seeing predictions of upsetting some teams, or having other teams as tUnder during games. You guys seem under the radar and haven't seen much discussion.

Optimism due to to solid OLine, QB and WRs.

Negativity due to LB play.

Our offense should help us upset a team or two, and our defense will lose a few.

We have a few key groups that are up in the air.

Strengths:
QB (Ta’amu > Cry baby Shea)
WR (best in the SEC plus a great TE)
OL (verteran group anchored by a 1st rounder at LT)

Weakness:
DL (depth)
LB (experience and depth)

RB is a toss up but I think our offensive line will play well enough to make it functional. We won’t have a 1000 yard back but more of team approach mixing in QB runs.

At this point I don’t see anything other than luck to boost us over 7 wins or any reason to give us less than 6 wins. We will score a lot but will lose some games we should win. 5 wins would be disappointing. 6 would be about right. 7 or more would be a good season IMO.

That's not too bad coming off the shite you guys have went through. Still doesn't make it okay, but that's not bad after having the NCAA up your butts.

As someone pointed out on the Ole Miss board, offense is built like the Sugar bowl team from Kelly’s junior year that lit up the score board every week.

Oline anchored by a consensus 1st round left tackle(Greg little instead of Tunsil) but the biggest difference is we have 4 of 5 returning starters overall so line should be really solid. Greg Little is higher rated than Tunsil.

WRs are led by 1st team all american candidate (AJ Brown instead of Laquon Treadwell) but I would take AJ over Laquon and I think we are deeper this year with DK and Lodge behind him. We have 3 WRs who could start at any school in America. Brown has already broken many Ole Miss WR records. Lodge who most consider to be our 3rd best WR actually was the best deep threat last year:

And DK is just a freak. 6 ft 4, 225 and runs a legit 4.4 dude could probably play rush DE

QB will be solid, i think Ta’amu will be a top 3 or 4 QB in the league with a good chance to be better if he improves from last year. He will be made better by how good his line and WRs are. I think Chad Kelly was one of the best QBs we’ve ever had so it’s hard to say Ta’amu will be as good as him, but ta’amu is faster.

RB, not really sure yet we have a bunch of new guys and a veteran coming back from injury so we will see.

As far as defense is concerned it’s hard to be worse than last year, so if we improve even a little I think we will be at least 6-6 with a chance to go 8-4 if LSU and Auburn suck. Basically watch our defense and RBs during the Texas Tech game. If either of them are a lot better than anticipated then we might sneak up and be decent.

Ole Miss has reasons for optimism on offense. WRs and first unit OL are legit.

Defense is going to be a swinging gate and that's a problem. Will have to outscore a lot of teams.

I'm not buying the hype on Ta'amu but he is serviceable and will be helped by the line and WRs.

Rebs should win a few. If I were a fan, I'd be concerned about the defense (entire, not just LB), the running game, and depth on the offensive line.

I have them at 6-6, but the defense would have me concerned if I was a Rebel. They will struggle against teams with good D-lines. Drop 8 and they become one dimensional. They will have a deadly air attack which bodes well against Texas Tech, but will likely be exposed against Bama and LSU in the first half of the season.

Don't get me started on his stupid arse. He's not a Head Coach, but a glorified cheerleader. I've been pissed off since the day he was promoted. Can't tell you how many times I've yelled "ole Hodor lookin' arse" when they show him on the sidelines.

I don't know why people are so down on Taamu. Patterson wasn't cutting it last year. He could drive between the 20s and then nothing. He liked to throw interceptions and would rocket-arm a receiver 5 yards away. He was very volatile and would not check down on receivers but would tend to tuck and run as option 2. He was not successful at this. Taamu threw catchable balls and brought stability to the position. The team rallied around him. He was successful.

I'm not down on him. He's a serviceable SEC quarterback. He can make all the throws and he's athletic. There just wasn't a lot of film on him last year, and his biggest statistical games were against the nonconference cupcakes. Let's see how he does against the really good front 7s he will have to play this year.

You guys have a tendency to overhype your QBs.

We can start with Chad Kelly - who can be argued as one of the best QB's we've ever had. His 2015 season, he passed for 4,042, which was third best in SEC history (he also rushed for 509 yards that season). That guy was a straight up baller.

When Shea took over, he lit it up against A&M, but after that showing, his weaknesses became apparent against SEC defenses. Like mentioned above, he wouldn't go through his progressions and would tuck and run instead of checking down.

The game in which Shea got injured (the LSU game), our offense was absolutely anemic with him in the game. When Ta'amu came in, we were suddenly able to move the ball against LSU. Not that it mattered since Guice rushed for something like 8 miles in that game.

Ta'amu ended up with the 2nd best QBR in the conference. But, when looking at the Shea vs Ta'amu argument:

Shea Patterson
SEC Defenses Faced: Alabama, Auburn, Vandy, 1st half vs LSU
Stats against SEC: 80-138 (57.97%), 978 yards 6 TD's, 5 INT's, -20 yards rushing

Jordan Ta'amu
SEC Defenses Faced: 2nd half of LSU, Arkansas, Kentucky, A&M, MSU
Stats against SEC: 87-137 (63.50%), 1264 yards, 8 TD's, 3 INT's, 120 yards rushing

Shea did face tougher defenses than Ta'amu did, but the only same team that they played (LSU), Ta'amu was significantly better. Shea had a 15.4 QBR in that game vs Ta'amu's 87.5 QBR.

From watching the two play, I don't think Shea would have gotten the starting job back had he stayed at Ole Miss - Ta'amu showed more poise, read through his progressions better, threw a more catchable ball (especially his deep ball), and was much smarter on when to run.

I'm not saying that Ta'amu is the best QB in the conference - but I am saying he's a better QB than Shea is.

He played in 6 conference games and only 1 non conference game, but okay.

Shhhh....don't screw up the narrative. In the Vandy game, he only came in to run the ball a few times and didn't throw any passes. I did break down the stats vs SEC opponents in my post up above.

Telling was when Luke put Patterson back in against LSU, the offense sputtered again. We may have won the game is he had stayed with Taamu.

I don't see Tx Tech scoring much breaking in a new QB even as bad as the OM defense will be I think they will beat Tx Tech.
