The discussion of how to embrace tradition while being sensitive to the emotions that these symbols invoke for black people is just too complex for the rant.
Most people here still struggle with the concept that 3 idiots in college t-shirts do not define the entire university or its fanbase.

Badass song. Always makes me think of Elvis.

the Ayers settlement that was supposed to help more black kids get into Ole Miss that is the very thing that keeps us from being able to turn down the retarded counts who do shite like yell TSWRA.
That's just not true. The Ayers settlement forbids our increasing admissions standards for IN STATE applicants. We can do what we want with out of state applicants. The sad truth is that kids come to Ole Miss from Buckhead and Highland Park to party on Daddy's dime and play Johnny Reb for 4-5 years, then move back home and don't have to deal with the stigma that comes from things like TSWRA. The same goes for all of these fans of other SEC teams who just "Looooove" Col. Reb, Dixie, FDWL, etc. They get to play Johnny Reb vicariously through us, but don't have to deal with the consequences, and their coaches also get to throw the race card on the table against us in recruiting. frick. That. shite.

I hope this is true is has always been one of my favorite songs that any SEC band plays.
Even as a State fan, I completely agree with this.

I am NOT a liberal...At all...but the numbskulls yelling TSWRA absolutely ruined it for everybody. Don't know how you bring it back now. I honestly think it's time to let it go...

I don't mind being called a liberal, though I think I am more accuratele a centrist (and just appear liberal to most people in the deep South).
I still have a positive emotional reaction to From Dixie with Love. It's a beautiful song and I associate it with positive things. But I also understand why many black people will never be able to hear anything associated with the pre-Civil Rights South, particularly anything that goes back pre-Civil War, without feeling some very negative emotions.
The fact that I care about that negative reaction doesn't mean I want to censor everything that could possibly offend anyone. I just believe that offending a huge percentage of black Americans and black Southerners is something that matters, something I choose not to do, and I hope it is something taken into consideration *along with* the cherishing of tradition when deciding where to appropriately draw lines.

When I was at LSU in the mid 80's, I think it was WBRZ Channel 2 that signed off each late night with the Star Spangled Banner, then a slow, haunting a cappella version of Dixie (the whole song) with scenes from Louisiana and the South. It was beautiful.

It is indeed a beautiful song..but I cant relate to it or cant say or evokes any sort of pride. Dixie is a place I would not have wanted to live in..

Why did you repost that? Do you think the rant is some PC place?

Sounds like Elvis's American trilogy. Great song

That's what it's based off of.

I am pretty sure it is what they call "slow dixie". Anyway, great band piece. I have no clue what it has to do with slavery though. I wish people would stop ruining things with PC hysteria.

It wasn't the words to Dixie that got the song banned.
It was the final words to Battle Hymn of the Republic. That song has been banned at Ole Miss.
