And have they even ruled on North Carolina yet?

No but it's coming. This article is from June 4, just a few weeks ago.

quote:

North Carolina has released the NCAA's Notice of Allegations stemming from an investigation of academic irregularities at the school.

The NCAA said that its enforcement staff feels four of the five allegations constitute Level I violations, which are classified as severe breaches of conduct. The fifth allegation, regarding lack of institutional control, could also be classified as Level I. The other violations include unethical conduct and extra benefits.

The first allegation stems from impermissible benefits.

"It is alleged that beginning in the 2002 fall semester and continuing through the 2011 summer semester, the institution provided impermissible benefits to student athletes that were not generally available to the student body," the notice reads.

Allegation No. 2 states that women's basketball athletic academic counselor Jan Boxill "added content to multiple players' incomplete papers," while Allegation No. 3 says that the school's former African and Afro-American Studies student services manager failed to cooperate with the NCAA investigation.

Allegation No. 4 states that the chair of the African and Afro-American Studies department failed to cooperate with the NCAA's investigation. Allegation No. 5 says that North Carolina failed to "effectively monitor the activities of rogue faculty," constituting a lack of institutional control.

UNC announced last month that it had received the NCAA's Notice of Allegations.

The NCAA indicated last June that it would reopen its 2011 investigation of academic irregularities at North Carolina after it determined that "additional people with information and others who were previously uncooperative might be willing to speak with the enforcement staff?.”

Last October, North Carolina released a report compiled by former federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein following his investigation into the academic irregularities. The report detailed how academic officials created "paper classes" in which students were given good grades with "little regard" for the quality of their work.

The report found that the fraud spanned 18 years and involved roughly 1,500 athletes.

It has taken time because new witnesses came forward & the investigation ended up going back even further than originally thought.

Giving Ole Miss the death penalty will have zero impact on the SEC and/or the NCAA.

No school is ever getting the death penalty ever again so it shouldn't even be mentioned. You are fooling yourself if you think a school getting the death penalty wouldn't effect the conference though. That harsh penalty would open up an entire can of worms for every school to have to deal with inside the division as well for the powers that be.

The death penalty isn't just a post season ban, the program gets banned from playing altogether for one season. That would throw a huge monkey wrench in every teams schedule in the West as well as the two cross divisional opponents. Do you know how hard it would be for that many schools to find replacement games on such short notice?

Also, how do you distribute the revenue equally for a year when you have one program who wouldn't even contribute to bringing in those dollars? Do you cut them out completely for that year? Obviously, that particular school wouldn't think that would be fair but that there would probably be officials from other schools who feel that if said school didn't contribute, then how do they deserve a piece of the pie?

Poor choice of words on my part. Should have said this investigation is different in that a parent is exposing violations.

The fact you posted this topic implies that you, Landmass and everyone else, are indeed scared shitless.

They better remember that Saban's butt buddy, Mark Emmert, is in charge of the NCAA.

Instead of going after the obvious flaunting of new cars, go after the team that beat your buddy.

Yeah budy. This could get ugly .

"But on Thursday, Miller told The Clarion-Ledger that, in addition to the contact made by agents, he is aware of violations that occurred during Tunsil's recruitment as well, including claims of falsified academic records and gifts made by the university.

Miller also alleges that the agents have provided Tunsil with other benefits outside of transportation, including gifts of cash, clothes, help with car insurance payments and more."

Not a court of law. No evidence needed.

You have been salty as hell lately. I also think nothing will come of this.

But sweet Lord I can't wait for your meltdown if major stink comes out of this crisis.

I'll be mad but I wont melt. Melting doesn't do anything but embarrass the person doing it.

I agree. Saban and Emmert being BFFs actually has benefits here. Like the other poster said, I'll bet even Saban doesn't want Ole Miss to get the death penalty. Severely penalized, sure, but not off his schedule.

It was never 10 years, it's always been "at least 1 year".

Interestingly enough, only 1 SEC team has ever received the Death Penalty. Kentucky Basketball, 1952.

Nope. It was only a one year ban for SMU for 1987. They voluntarily gave up their 1988 season. It just goes to show just how crippling the Death Penalty is even for just one season. It was also one of main reasons the SWC fell apart.

quote:

The death penalty—part of the “repeat violators” rule in official NCAA parlance—wiped out SMU’s entire 1987 season and forced the Mustangs to cancel their 1988 campaign as well.
