Only thing they can beat em at is ticket sales.

Ticket prices in acorn sections are cheaper than Bama's sections. Not sure if this is really anything to brag about.

Ohio State beating Alabama in buying Sugar Bowl tickets

I expect such silliness from the Cleveland press, but geez, the OP should be able to recognize the fact that this "seatgeek" site can only analyze based on where tickets are shipped to, and that there will be tons of Bama fans traveling from Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, and the Florida panhandle. I seriously doubt that more OSU fans have bought tickets than Bama fans. Tide Pride members had to have well over 500 points in order to get tickets. Unless you're contributing some fairly serious dollars, you would have to be a ticket holder for several years in order to get tickets. This is my 9th year, and I've only got 160 points. Any notion that OSU fans are out-spending Bama fans is silly.

This is true. I decided not to go to the game, rather just stay at the Rusty Nail down in N.O, but I would have loved to have seen the band play.

I'm not sure who will have more fans at the game, and obviously Alabama's proximity to New Orleans makes it more feasible for an average fan to attend.

That being said, having no comparable in-state rival in one of the most populous states, one of the largest alumni groups, and a rich overall tradition and success (like Bama) results in large fan base; one of the largest in the country. So it doesn't seem that silly that they could outsell Bama.

Perhaps not. The silly thing is an alleged journalist not grasping the fact that the site can only base the info off of shipping addresses, which means little, and then making the leap that she did. I sell tickets to games at BDS every year, and rarely do the tickets go to an address in either Alabama or the state where the visiting team is from. I was looking at buying 4 tickets to be delivered to here in Tennessee...3 for Bama fans and 1 for an OSU fan.

Agreed. But like any other proxy variable, the data provide a raw estimate. That being said, it's not a stretch to say that the distribution of ticket sales outside these states closely approximates to these data.

Well yea, they've had enrollments of 50K for decades. Alabama was a school of 15-20K until about 4 years ago.

Alabama had over 20,000 the entire time I was at Alabama from 2001-2006. It's over 35,000 now.

It was like 18,500 back in 91-96 when I was there. The new campus still floors me.

I wonder if the gumps will be the first SEC team to lose to the Buckeyes. Arkansas very nearly had that monkey on their backs as the only one to lose to them but, as we all know, tOSU were found guilty of cheating by the NCAA and were forced to vacate that illegally obtained win. So, looks like the pressure is all on Gumpganistan.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if there are slightly more tOSU fans there than Bama fans. They had a TON of fans there in 2007 for the National Championship game. They travel well. That matched with the Bama assumption that they will beat Ohio State and move on the the Championship game may mean that Buckeyes out number the Gumps.

FWIW - I agree with the posts about tOSU band. They were worth seeing.

Ohio with a 3% lead is not that surprising.

no, it's not that surprising, but it's not only because their schools is bigger. they care just as much about their team as anyone. they were everywhere in the 2007 bcsnc. also, many alabama fans can make a short drive to new orleans for the game, not so much for ohio st fans.

Actually, that L is still on your record. We just had to vacate our W, but it still shows as a loss on your end.

I'll take your word for it. Can't say that I have ever paid attention to a band during a football game.
